Who We Are
The San Luis Valley Animal Welfare Society is a nonprofit (501c3) with a mission to improve the wellbeing of animals (primarily dogs & cats) in the San Luis Valley (SLV). We have active rescue and spay/neuter programs. We have rescued over 2,000 homeless often suffering dogs and cats in the past 3 years. We have received numerous grants for spay/neutering dogs and cats in this valley to reduce the number of homeless pet animals. All charitable donations to us are tax deductable and will be acknowledged with a card so stating. The SLV is the largest alpine valley in the world (roughly the size of Connecticut) and currently does not have a no-kill animal welfare facility. Our goal is to build a low up-front cost, low-operating-cost, sustainable, no-kill animal welfare facility. The San Luis Valley is the poorest area of the state.
Our Board
Collectively the SLVAWS Board & Officers have been successful in: founding and managing a medium-size business with over 200 employees and substantial budget, administering a school of business and a summer college operation, middle management in large world class corporation, securing substantial amounts of grant funding, physical plant management, hands on experience running animal shelters, writing grant proposals which have brought in millions of dollars of funding, and expertise in animal health and diseases.
Adopting a friend
Our adoptable animals are healthy and have had their shots. Animals that are old enough are spay/neutered. We charge a refundable spay/neuter deposit. Puppies are Parvo tested and cats are leukemia tested prior to adoption.
