Yuba County Animal Care Services would like you to meet Angel (ID# A124776). This eleven month old beauty was given the name Angel by shelter staff because she must have had one watching over her. When Angel arrived at the shelter, staff noticed abrasions on her neck. After closer inspection, we noticed that someone had put a ponytail rubber band around her neck. This was probably done when she was a young kitten. With all her beautiful white fur, no one noticed it was still there as she grew. Lucky for Angel Dr. Tucker from Feather River Vet was able to remove it, stitch her neck back up, and she is healing wonderfully. This is an opportunity to stress the importance of a collar with identification on your feline friends. Even better, consider microchipping all your pets as well. With identification, neighbors, strangers, and even the shelter will know this is a family pet and not a stray. If your cat wears a collar, please make sure it's a breakaway collar. Test it before you buy it to see if when pulled it will pull apart. Not all collars are created equal. Remember, the only thing around your cat's neck should be a safe breakaway collar with identification. Angel is looking for a home where she will have someone willing to take the time needed to make her feel safe and secure. She might do best being the only animal in the house, at least until she can become comfortable in her new surroundings.
Meet Gaston (ID# A124968), a two year old male gray tabby domestic longhair mix. This cuddly cat hopes to be the Valentine to warm your heart on these chilly February nights. Gaston is a handsome man with a beautiful soft fluffy coat. He likes to look sharp and takes pride in maintaining his multi-colored fur. Gaston would be a good companion for someone with a busy schedule, as he loves nothing better than to lounge around and relax most of the time. You can see Gaston, or any of our adoptable animals, at 5245 Feather River Blvd., in Olivehurst. Our shelter hours are Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 3:30 pm and we have new hours on Saturdays,
10 am to 2 pm.

DONATIONS NEEDED
Our dogs and cats love to sleep on Kuranda beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another dog or cat to sleep in comfort, please donate a Kuranda bed.
We are ALWAYS in need of blankets, and towels.
Bags of dry kitten food
Canned Cat food - Pate' type only
We are also looking for materials to build two covered get acquainted areas, so families looking to adopt can spend some quality quiet time with the animals. (need fencing, concrete)
Also would like to install a sound system to pipe music into all kennels. We have found playing music for the animals helps to calm them and make their stay with us more relaxing. Someone with knowledge of doing this would be of a great help to us.
Caring For Your Pet
Here are some helpful hints for responsible pet owners:
· Provide your pet with veterinary care on a regular basis and if the animal becomes ill or injured.
· Keep the animal as a pet and companion. Don’t use it as a guard dog, fighting dog, for experimentation or any unethical use.
· Get your pet spayed or neutered to help reduce animal overpopulation.
· License your dog. Proof of a rabies certificate is required.
· Put an identification tag on your cat.
· Our Center scans all animals entering our shelter. We recommend seeing your veterinarian to have your pet micro-chipped as a means of permanently identifying your pet. Rest assured that if your pet is lost, scanning can help point the way home.
