Who We Are:

* We are an informal group of individuals making an effort to find permanent placements for dogs (and cats) that are in need of re-homing.

* We do not take in animals from the public but will give you all the information needed to "Help You Help Yourself" in the re-homing of your dog or cat.

* We are not a non-profit and do not receive funding from any source and pay out of pocket for the costs associated with the dogs and cats in our care.

* We rescue big dogs and small dogs and dogs of all breeds and breed mixes. Our focus is on the dog's health and temperament and not the breed.

* In addition to providing the resources on how to find good homes, we also provide information and resources on many other pet-related topics.

Our Process:

Some might consider our adoption process a bit cumbersome, but we feel that being thorough is in the best interest of the adoptable animal as well as the adoptive family.

Our process consists of an adoption application, a phone interview, an in-person meet-and-greet, and a home safety check.

To add to the chances of the placement being successful, in most cases, we require the adopter take a basic obedience class with the newly adopted pet.

Our adoption donations are non-refundable.

Courtesy Postings:

Anyone listing a pet for adoption with Sacramento Canine Placement Assistance must comply with the following criteria:

1) All pets for adoption must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to being listed on our site (unless there is written verification by a veterinarian that doing any of the aforementioned would jeopardize the animal's health).

2) All adoptable pets must wear visible identification at all times.

3) We strongly encourage adoptable/adopted pets go through a minimum of a six-week course with a positive-based dog trainer approved by the foster parent. This helps ensure a successful placement.

4) An Adoption Application, Adoption Contract and Home Safety Check must be completed prior to adoption of the listed pet. There will also be an adoption donation (no free to good homes) which will go to the foster person and/or the person coordinating the adoption.

5) We will not be able to post dogs for adoption that have human aggression issues.
