Charlie was found as a stray and taken to the shelter. This is where he stayed, waiting for his owner to reclaim him. His owner never came, even after being notified. Charlie's time was running short, so we were contacted to help.

Charlie's long stay at the shelter, on the hard concrete floor, contributed to the development of a hygroma (a fluid filled sac cushioning a joint) on his elbow. He had a terrible case of fleas, flea allergy dermatitis and seborrhea. His teeth are worn from years of chewing on himself in an attempt to relieve his itching.

Charlie's hygroma has been drained, and is resolved now that he has cushioned beds to lie on. Once we were able to help him gain about 10 pounds, as he was severely thin(), he was able to undergo surgery to remove a growth (benign) as well as a couple cysts and even a BB from his leg! While he was having his surgery, his ears were examined, and foxtails were found and removed from both ears. His teeth were examined and cleaned, and were deemed to be healthy enough to keep.

Charlie's health and condition have improved immensely since he's been with us. His seborrhea is under control. His medium length black and white coat has filled in nicely and is much more lustrous. Charlie has already been neutered, is housebroken and enjoys nice, relaxed leash walks. Charlie is a wonderfully sweet boy, very well-behaved and would be a wonderful addition to a home looking for a purebred border collie who won't be bouncing off the walls with endless energy. Charlie is approximately 10-12 years old and will make a great friend for someone willing to treat him with the kindness and respect that he deserves. Even after all of those years of neglect, Charlie still loves people and enjoys love and attention.

Charlie was adopted by a wonderful couple before Christmas 2006. He was able to enjoy daily beach walks, and lots of love and attention from his new family. Unfortunately, Charlie was only able to enjoy the last year of his life in a loving home. He was cared for better than ever, and Charlie thrived until one day an acute neurologic ailment took his dream life away in a matter of days. He will be greatly missed by those of us who knew him. He is in heaven now, having experienced the best humans can give to their canine companions.

Who We Are

Our organization is dedicated to all aspects of border collie welfare. We facilitate education, referral and training of both border collies and those who care for them. In addition, we provide temporary foster care for homeless border collies when our resources allow. We are an all volunteer organization, which depends on public support for our goal to enhance the lives of border collies and their humans.

Adopting a friend

An Adoption Application (available online at http://www.bcrescue.us/Adoption Application.htm) is required prior to visiting our fosters. After your online application submission, a volunteer will contact you to arrange for a visit to your home, and also for you and your family to meet those dogs which will suit your lifestyle. An Adoption Contract and Adoption Fee of $200 are required for the protection of our precious border collies.
