KEIRA is a wonderful torti point himalayan girl who badly needs a new home! She was at a southern CA animal shelter, and they adopted her to someone who kept her for a few months, and then returned her to the shelter! This was not KEIRA's fault, the owners just made a decision and that was it! She's an independent confident cat who would make anyone a good friend, and she likes to bond with her people. She's not a great fan of other cats, but "might" be OK with one other mellow cat. Would you like to be KEIRA's new forever friend?

KEIRA!
If you'd like to adopt a cat from Helping Persian Cats, at a minimum, we require completion of an adoption application, an interview and a vet reference. We love our adoptable cats, and want to make sure you want to make the committment to adopt these lovely creatures!.......Sorry, we do not ship cats!
We have another website, www.helpingpersians.com, which has more information about our group.
We also have a webpage dedicated to Persians, Himalayans, exotic short hairs, and other breed cats who need help in southern California animal control shelters.
Please visit http://www.helpingpersians.com/sheltercats.html
Many people are shocked to learn that breed cats end up in animal control shelters, especially the lovely Persians and Himalayans. Often, people think that breed cats in "the pound" are not at risk - and that someone will surely want to adopt them. Not true! The euthanasia rate for all cats is 60-70% at many animal control shelters in southern California and across the state!
Please remember that no matter how hard rescuers try, we cannot do this alone. Please adopt a shelter pet, or please adopt from a rescue group.

Helping Persian Cats Adoptions -We show our adoptable cats every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 11:30 to 3:30 at Petco in Santa Monica, at 2910 Wilshire Blvd, west of the 405 freeway, on the corner or Wilshire and Yale. Our rescue group depends on a network of qualified responsible foster homes, who will be more than willing to help you meet the cat of your dreams!
.
Do you have a special talent you'd like to share? We'd love to have more help for our rescue group. We need foster homes, people to help with special adoption events, people who want to get involved in fundraising and writing grants, people who want to pick up cats from animal shelters and drive them to the vet for their pre-foster home exams, and even someone who might be able to help maintain our website. If you're able to spend even just a few hours volunteering, please contact Venita at vmcmorris@hotmail.com. Thank you.
Helping Persian Cats rescues Persians, Himalayans, Exotic Short Hairs, Scottish Folds, British Short Hairs, and other cats, and places them in responsible and loving homes with people who care! Our network of volunteers rescues primarily purebred cats, from local animal shelters in the Southern California area, and from breeders who are no longer able to care for their cats, and from private owners in special circumstances.
Helping Persian Cats developed as a project of the New Millenium Cat Club, a Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) show producing club consisting of primarily Persian breeders, a Siamese breeder, and a Tonkinese breeder. Our first rescue was in 1998 when a breeder was evicted from her home. We were given only 72 hours to remove 40 Persian cats and get them into foster homes. Our rescue group started with a group of committed breeders who care deeply about their breed.
We believe that the happiest and healthiest life for a cat is as a spayed or neutered pet. Responsible breeders and rescuers spay and neuter ALL cats BEFORE placing them in new homes, without exception. We do not rely on "promises" to get the operation performed in the future. The correct age to spay or neuter a kitten is 8-16 weeks of age, depending on their development, no later. Kittens bounce back from the surgery much more easily at this age. We will NOT adopt out any cat or kitten without having spayed or neutered them BEFORE they go to their new family.
If you happen to have adult cats or kittens who still need to be spayed or neutered, please do the right thing, for their sake, and in the interests of reducing pet overpopulation. Please have all of your animals spayed or neutered right away. If you need information about spay/neuter resources in your community, please email us at helpingpersians@hotmail.com.

We are very grateful to Sherry Meddick, transporter and rescuer, for helping us rescue so many Persians and Himalayans. We truly are amazed at all the transports you've done from Orange County shelters and from far flung places like Bakersfield and Mojave. Without your help, dozens of these wonderful purebreds would be lost. We know we can depend on you to provide safe transit, keeping the animals calm and healthy in the process. We also very much appreciate everything you've done to help reform animal control shelters, and to educate the public about spaying and neutering. The animals have a true friend and crusader in you!
.
Thank you AGAIN to Sherry Meddick, for the instrumental role you've played in reforming the Bakersfield shelter system. Your relentless efforts, along with those of Patti Locke and others, has led to the funding of a new veterinary clinic at the Kern County shelter! Finally, the animals there have a chance to receive proper care. The community and the animals are grateful!

Thank you Raani York of Switzerland, for your tireless efforts and patience in designing our beautiful new website, at www.helpingpersians.com. All your hard work is truly appreciated! We love our new look!

In memory of Casey, the Bernstein's beloved 18 year old flame point Himalayan who passed away on September 22, 2005. You were a great companion and dedicated friend, Casey boy, and we miss you sorely. We'll see you at the Rainbow Bridge. Thanks for all the memories of a life shared.
In memory of Feather, who died of lung cancer, and Paige, who died from complications of a bleeding ulcer and cardiac failure. These two rescued angels were in foster care, after having been turned in to local animal control shelters by their owners. While we are happy that these two darling babies were able to have wonderful loving foster homes at the end of their lives, we are very unhappy that their owners likely knew something was wrong with them medically, and decided the easiest route for the owners was to just get rid of their cats. This is type of behavior is irresponsible and shows a total lack of regard for our feline friends. We are very sad at the passings of Feather and Paige, and they are missed by us!
