WE HAVE KITTENS, BUCKETS FULL OF KITTENS FOR ADOPTION!!!!! COME AND SEE THEM ON JULY 3rd and 4th AT PETSMART in Sacramento on Natomas Road. There should be more than 20 kittens up for adoption.
Nationwide, the number of animals abandoned because of foreclosure is on the rise. Katmom receives 5 to 10 calls a week asking us to take in a cat or dog because someone is losing their home. Currently, we are unable to take in any other animals because we are extremely full. Most of the calls we receive are cats that are older and most of our adopters want kittens. Some of these cats have never been socialized and when introduced to a new person they hide; most adopters do not want a shy cat and only a few will give the cat a month or more to come around and work through their shyness. Some of the cats we have will never be a lap cat or a cat that you will be able to pick up and carry, BUT they will make great companions for your cat or dog to play with. It is easy to take a cute kitten home they usually have no baggage attached to them. That is just adopting a new pet. It is a true rescue when it is an animal with some baggage because you help her/him work through their troubles or it is okay with you that they are not that perfect pet you always wanted; you can always adopt one of those. Right now these cats need those of us that are doing okay (while others lose there homes) to help by adopting one of them, giving her/him a loving, patient, forgiving and forever home.
Our Pet Dog of the month is "Matters"
He is a Border Collie/Dutch Shepherd Mix. I was owner surrendered at Petsmart. I am a very friendly, and playful dog. I love to be with people, and am not sure how to play with other animals. I need to go through puppy training to learn what to do to have good manners. I am active and would be really good with someone who jogs, walks or runs. I am a very smart dog, and a little stubborn. I am learning to be crate trained and doing pretty well.
Our Pet Cat of the month is "Hampton"
Hampton was taken in at two weeks with his 5 siblings and mom, 2 yrs ago. Why he is still with KATMOM, I do not know. Hampton has a minor case of an eye infection known as rhinotracheitis virus (feline herpesvirus type 1). This is not contagious to humans or to cats that have had their annual vaccines, it only makes Hampton's eyes water when he gets stressed out.. With the help of L-Lysine, Hampton has been able to keep his water eyes under control. Hampton can be shy at first and may take some time to adjust to a new home, but he has a lot of love to give. He gets along with other cats and dogs. He loves playing with the Chihuahuas at his foster home, but he does not love large dogs. Hampton needs a home that is understanding to his being shy at first. He is a lovebug of a cat. He loves to play with the laser light on the floor.
KATMOM ALSO HAS BARN CATS TO PLACE.
These cats do not have an adoption fee. We prefer that these cats go in groups of TWO OR MORE.
WHO WE ARE
KATMOM is a non-profit, no-kill organization founded in 2003 to reduce the population of unwanted pets. Since there are so many feral and semi-feral cats wandering the streets of our neighborhoods, KATMOM decided to help take care of those animals. In the few years KATMOM has been in existence, we have successfully trapped, neutered and returned many animals back to their colonies, preventing thousands of unwanted litters of kittens. As KATMOM has grown, we now rescue abandoned, abused, and homeless cats and kittens.Dogdad grew out of Katmom's rescue efforts. We began rescuing small dogs and puppies when we would go and rescue cats and kittens on location. Since Dogdad's inception, we have networked with Animal Control offices up and down the State of California saving many dogs from the fate of the state system.
BY THE NUMBERS
In the few years KATMOM has been in existence, we have successfully trapped, neutered and returned many animals back to their colonies; as a result; we saved unwanted litters being born over the lifetime of these cats. From 2003 through 2005 Katmom TNR over 250 cats and adopted out 580
cats and kittens. In 2006-07 KATMOM was able to TNR more than 200 cats and was able to place over 1100 cats and kittens into loving homes.
In 2006-07 Dogdad was also able to rescue and place 250 dogs into new loving homes.
