Our Featured Pet...

Animal Rescue League (ARL) believes that all of the animals in our care are special. We ask that you read their descriptions carefully, think about what type of pet would be best for you and your environment and then contact us if you feel you've found a match.

Who We Are

Animal Rescue League is a 501(c)(3) non-profit humane organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of domestic and feral animals, as well as educating the public about the responsibilities of animal care to further develop public awareness regarding care, conservation and the human-animal bond within the community. ARL seeks funding via grants and fundraising opportunities. Additionally we rely on donations from the public to offset the costs of caring for the animals. Because our animals are rescued from abuse or abandonment veterinary care is our largest expense and donations are graciously accepted. Please consider supporting our cause - we really are a great group and we do everything we can for the animals in our care. Donations are tax deductible and can be sent to the address below or made via our website - www.arlcalif.org. ARL is an all volunteer organization with no paid staff. Our priority will always be the health and safety of the animals.

Adopting a friend

ARL has developed a hands-on, pet friendly, customer service oriented adoption process with 3 specific goals in mind: 1. Aid in the prevention of animal overpopulation, 2. Deter animal abandonment & acts of cruelty and 3. Promote pet education. Our motto is "It's About the Animal". As the advocate for the animal each animal received into ARL's care undergoes a medical evaluation upon arrival to determine wellness. Our animals are spayed/neutered, tested/treated for illness or injury, vaccinated, and all are micro-chipped for their safety. Prior to adoption, ARL conducts an initial home visit to ensure the right placement for each animal and family. We do additional home visits to assist in the transition of the animal to its new home, to answer any questions the family may have and/or to address any concerns regarding the care of the animal. ARL guarantees the health of our animals for 30 days. Animal Rescue League believes that pet adoptions should be about finding the right match for the family and the animal - after all, having a pet is a lifetime commitment!

Come Visit Us!

Animal Rescue League has a cageless adoption center in the Elk Grove PETCO store. Sponsored by PETCO we are very grateful for having this room and being able to showcase our wonderful cats in such a warm and inviting environment. Our adoption hours are:

PETCO on Laguna Blvd., in Elk Grove:
Saturdays from 1 pm - 5 pm
Sundays from 1 pm - 4 pm
Thursdays from 6 pm - 8 pm
By appointment, please call 916-714-2894

We are always looking for volunteers to assist us - please see our Volunteer application online at www.arlcalif.org if you're interested! (Must be 21 years old, have your own transportation and be able to lift up to 35 lbs.).

In addition Animal Rescue League has another cageless adoption center, Mason's Place, named after a senior cat that was abandoned and left to survive on his own. Mason came to us weighing in at approximately 6 lbs. 8 oz., extremely dehydrated and practically blind. He was so emaciated that the family that found him named him Macy - a take on "emaciated", believing that he was a female kitten. Although we did our best to save Mason he was only a part of our ARL family for 33 days. We will never forget him and his strong will to survive. Mason died on December 24, 2004, but he will remain in our hearts forever.

Mason's Place and our space in PETCO are adoption centers only - we do not accept owner surrendered animals or drop-offs. Our resources are limited. Visitation to Mason's Place is by appointment only. Please call us at 916-714-2894 if you're seriously interested in adopting and would like to make arrangements to meet one (or more!) of our animals or stop by PETCO during adoption hours.

Animal Rescue League is a "never kill" organization. A "never kill" is an organization which is a no kill for both adoptable and feral animals. We love kitties others might consider feral and work very hard to help them overcome their fear of humans. The majority of animals we rescue from outside though are domestic animals that someone has thrown away or allowed to reproduce uncontrollably. It is heartbreaking to find a stray or abandoned pet, especially when it is obvious that it has been loved by someone. We ask everyone to please microchip your pets and to provide them with a safety collar and a tag so if we find them we can return them to you.

Please help us maintain the quality of life for these rescued animals while they await adoption by considering a donation to ARL - we can really use your support! From the tips of their noses to the ends of their tails we thank you.
