Hayward Animal Shelter takes in stray and owner surrendered animals within the City of Hayward. We always have dogs, cats, and rabbits available for adoption and occasionally other small animals as well. Animals listed on Petfinder.com are for adoption. If you are missing an animal please visit the shelter in person to fill out a lost pet report.
How To Adopt
If you are interested in adopting an animal, please visit the Hayward Animal Shelter Tuesday-Saturday between 1:00-4:30 PM. Although the shelter is open till 5, there is not enough time to process adoptions after 4:30. In order to adopt a pet you must:
*Be 18 years of age or older
*Have a valid photo ID and proof of current address
*Fill out an Adoption Questionairre
*Have all members of the household present to meet with the pet
*If you are adopting a dog, bring your current dog(s) down to the shelter to meet their potential new friend
*If renting, allow us to contact your landlord to confirm pets are allowed where you live
*Pay applicable adoption fees

Dog adoptions include a 5 in 1 canine vaccination, Bordatella vaccination, rabies vaccination, sterilization, Hayward license tag (for Hayward residents only), and a microchip.
Cat Adoptions Male:$97 Female:$107
Cat adoptions include a 5 in 1 feline vaccination, sterilization, a cardboard cat carrier, and a microchip. Rabbit Adoptions Male or Female:$50 Rabbit adoptions include the sterilization and cardboard carrier for transport.
