Rufus is a young Shephard/Rottweiler mix. He is gentle and quite a character as you can see from his photo. Come see him and bring any other doggies in your household so they can meet on neutral ground.
May 4-10 is Be Kind to Animals Week. This special week designation was created in 1915 by the American Humane Association to highlight and encourage compassion toward animals. To celebrate this event, from May 5-10, the IWV Humane Society will offer FREE engraved pet ID tags to the first 100 citizens who wish to have a tag made for their pet. Please go the Ridgecrest Animal Shelter at 411 San Bernardino Road to have the tag made.
As most of you know, the IWV Humane Society is the major non-profit organization doing fundraising for the Ridgecrest Animal Shelter, the STOP (Stop Pet OverPopulation) program, and the spay & neuter assistance for the Indian Wells and Searles Valleys communities. The IWVHS is working hard to control animal overpopulation and would appreciate your support. Please make a tax-deductible, secure, online donation with the new DONATE button below. Thanks for your support!
Low-income families can have 2 pets from their household spayed or neutered for FREE! Proof of low-income status (EBT/Medical, Medicare, Disability, SSI, or the like) and a photo ID is required. Please apply at the shelter. For more details see the Free Spay & Neuter Poster.
For children in the 4th through 8th grades, 300 words or less. Sponsored by the IWV Humane Society. Please see poster for details.
As of November 2007, Candice Robbs is the new Animal Control Officer. Tina Kimmons has gone off to finish her Pre-Vet Degree down somewhere in LA-LA land.
The usual adoption fees are as follows: kitty adoption fee is $59 for females and $49.40 for males ($30 if already altered), and the doggie adoption fee is $99 for females and $88 for males ($45 if already altered). This includes the WORKS: spay or neuter, current vaccines, AVID microchip with lifetime registration, a city license (if applicable), a new pet DVD, a small bag of Science Diet and some toys (while supplies last), and a free pet exam at a local veterinarian. What a deal!
There will be some great shelter animals up for adoption at the Health Fair on Saturday, April 5th, from 9 am to 1 pm. The Health Fair will be at its usual location at the old Savon building on Norma & Drummond. Some animals may be available to take home that day. Come on down!
We always need kennel volunteers, event volunteers, kennel supplies such as bleach and towels, etc, etc. Please contact Mary Stage, Shelter Supervisor, and join PACT (Police and Community Together). We need volunteers to take pet pictures and/or update the pet descriptions on Petfinder! We also need people who would be willing to update the pet clipboards at various high-traffic locations around Ridgecrest and Inyokern. We have one volunteer staffing the pet photos, and she may need a break one of these days! Thanks, Kimmie! Please contact lisa@TulgeyWood.org or mstage@ci.Ridgecrest.ca.us for more information on PetFinder volunteering.
Basically, if you can use a digital camera and shop online, you can help us. You also have to LOVE animals! Thanks!
Meet Tommy, who was serving community service as the shelter's official greeter. He was busted by Animal Control Officer ''Tina'' for jay-walking in Ridgecrest Boulevard. He now lives at a home for wayward Desert Tortoises.
If you have a dog house that you no longer need or use, please consider donating it to the shelter. We will see that it goes to a pet in the community that is without shelter.
The Ridgecrest Animal Shelter requests donations so that we can purchase antibiotics for the sick kitties coming into the shelter with Feline Upper Respiratory Syndrome. We can get them healthy and ready for adoption with your help. Your charitable donation is fully tax deductible.
Please drop by the shelter or mail a check to the "IWV HUMANE SOCIETY", c/o Ridgecrest Animal Shelter, 411 County Line Road, Ridgecrest, CA 93555. Write "for kitty meds" on the memo line of your check. The kitties will be a-Mews-ed by any donation we receive!
Come on down and find your new best friend! Once you have found him or her, the adoption fee covers the spay or neuter, city license (if applicable), current vaccines, microchip with lifetime registration, a small bag of Science Diet & some toys (while supplies last), and a free "new pet" exam at a local veterinarian. This fee is considerably less than what you would pay for the same services since the shelter has arrangements with a local vet for spay/neuter and rabies vaccine, and the shelter does the the rest of the vaccines and microchipping themselves. The friendly staff (consider bringing SNACKS to make sure of that) will help you with the little bit of paperwork. Then the staff schedules the appointment for spay/neuter and rabies vaccine with the vet. On the day of your new pet's appointment, your pet is driven to the vet in the Animal Care & Control van, then you pick your new friend up that evening from the vet!
You can also get a 2-sided metal nametag made for your new family member while you are there,or donate by purchasing paw magnets, dog & cat treats, silver paw jewelry, pet-emergency-rescue decals for your windows, funny-pet-message t-shirts, or handmade accessories.
