We adopt out purebred Shelties needing new homes for a variety of reasons. We screen and approve adopters throughout Northern California.

If you have a Sheltie you can no longer keep for any reason, please contact us so we can work on rehoming him with an approved, pre-screened and verified Sheltie lover, or we will bring the Sheltie into foster care until a suitable home can be found.

News

On average 60+ adult Shelties needing homes every year are looking for adopters. Our annual Sheltie picnic is a huge hit every summer. This year it will be held at Performance Dogs In Action hosted by Nola Jones just north of Sacramento on Saturday, July 18th. For more info please visit www.norcalsheltierescue.org/Events.htm to download a flyer.

Who We Are

NorCal (formerly Sacramento) Sheltie Rescue is located in Northern California. We take in and place homeless purebred Shelties (registration papers are not required) in approved homes throughout Northern California including the Bay Area from Fresno north to Oregon and from the coast to the Nevada stateline. This group was established to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome shelties who have lost their homes for a variety of reasons. Volunteers foster the Shelties in their homes to ready them for adoption. Care includes vet exams, vaccinations, medical treatment as necessary, and temperament evaluation. All are spayed or neutered prior to placement. We are always looking for competent, Sheltie loving folk to be foster parents! We are a tax exempt, not-for-profit 501c3 Charitable Rescue organization under the name Shetland Sheepdog Companions of Northern California Rescue. Donations to us are tax deductible and fund our largest expense -- veterinary care. It is common for us to spend $300-700 per rescue at the vet, including courtesy discounts some veterinarians give us. You can see why we need a healthy donation program! We are an affiliate of the national American Shetland Sheepdog Association Rescue Network, www.assa.org

Adopting a friend

If you are considering adopting a rescue Sheltie, contact the person listed for that Sheltie's Petfinder entry. You can download an Adoption Application by going to our website at Sheltie Rescue

If there aren't any Shelties currently available for adoption the applicant will be placed on a waiting list and contacted when a new dog comes into rescue with characteristics in line with the applicant's preferences, but more important to us is that the humans match to the Sheltie!
