Now we're IRS non-profit

Our volunteers throughout North America have rescued, transported, fostered, rehabilitated, and placed hundreds of Kuvasz and kuvasz-like mixes in their new, forever homes.

Kuvasz have a bad reputation among animal control workers because the breed is guardy and wary of strangers. This behavior is misinterpreted as aggressive and the dog is considered unadoptable. Maybe if they were smaller in size, the shelters might keep them longer. But most shelters will not "waste" an entire run on one dog they deem unadoptable when several smaller dogs that will be adopted can use that space.

The only hope a Kuvasz has of leaving a shelter alive is if animal control or any of the wonderful shelter workers contact Kuvasz rescue.

If you think the Kuvasz might be the right dog for your family, please fill out our adoption application. You will probably have to wait awhile until the right dog for your family comes along but that patience is exactly what will prepare you to have a kuvasz in your life.

Who We Are

Kuvasz Fanciers of America, Inc. a 501(c)(3) Corporation, was founded in 1985 in response to the degeneration of correct Kuvasz type in North America. KFA is dedicated not just to the preservation and promotion of the authentic Hungarian Kuvasz, but also to the support of ethical breeder conduct, rescue of Kuvaszok in distress, public education, and sponsorship of Kuvasz events and activities. KFA's volunteer rescue network has been instrumental in rescuing, rehabilitating and finding new homes for abandoned, abused and other victimized Kuvaszok. Most of these dogs are happy, healthy, attractive animals who adapt rapidly and with gratitude to loving new owners.
