Every Sunday we will be showing our dogs that are available for adoption at the Simi Valley Petsmart, 455 Cochran Ave. at Madera , from 11-3. Please bring your whole family so we can match the appropriate dog for you. If you would like to visit with one of the pets you see listed here, please give us a call ahead of time and we will bring that dog with us. Or you can make a weekday appointment. WE ALSO NOW PROVIDE PET SITTING AND IN -HOME MEDICAL CARE! We are a rescue organization centered in Ventura County, CA. We have no kennel facility, our animals are in foster homes and part of someone's family until they find a home of their own. If you would like to meet a dog you see featured on our site please email us and we will get back to you within 2 days. Please note that there is an adoption fee of $250 or more charged for each animal placed. The adoption fee goes directly to the care of the dogs we currently have in foster homes. All of our dogs, including the puppies, are altered and current on vaccinations, micro chipped and dewormed before adoption. If you do not see a dog you would like to adopt please check back often as we do have new arrivals all the time.
I founded B.A.R.K. in 1991 while I was between careers and doing volunteer work with Corgi Rescue. Most of my time was spent in one of the large LA County animal shelters, not a pleasant or hopeful place. I groomed, rescued, and fostered dogs from that shelter for most of that year. After a very short time I realized the dire situation of the pet population in Los Angeles.
That was when I formed B.A.R.K., became a non-profit, and really started rescuing big time! The city and county of Los Angeles each have five overflowing shelters, full of abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs....animals who used to be someone's pets. Most are sweet, and sadly, most are euthanized.
Many rescues have been organized since 1991 and I have met many new people. We always ask the same thing: Why does the situation never seem to get better? The answer is that life is better for all the animals we save! Won't you help save another?
First, we'll talk about the specific animal you are interested in and what your needs are. Then you will complete an application and I will bring that dog to your home to meet all your family members and to make sure that your yard is safe.
The $250.00 - $300 donation fee goes to support the other rescued dogs who are still waiting for homes, and to help cover our mounting vet bills!
