We are no longer doing our adoptions at PetSmart of Pasadena. At this point in time, we are accepting applications online for adoptions. If you are interested in adoption, you may email us for an application, fill it out, and send it back to us for review. If it's accepted, we will contact you to set up an appointment for you to meet the dog you are interested in adopting and then do a homecheck if you decide to adopt. Who We Are
Small Wonders Rescue was founded in 2001 to help find homes for the seemingly endless stream of abandoned, abused, or stray animals. In our case, the focus is on small dog breeds. The media and marketing of products and entertainment that include animals in their advertising campaigns tend to create a demand for these featured animals as pets. Most of these new pet-seekers who were in the targeted advertising demographic then go to breeders and pet stores to acquire their pets. Sadly, many aren't even aware of rescues and shelters while they are searching for their new pets. However, more often than not, they find that a pet was not what they really wanted, or their new pet was more than they could handle. They then either turn their animals in to the nearest shelter to "dispose" of them or they just simply let them go into a remote urban or wilderness area. More often than not, people abandon their part-time pets very far away from home so as to minimize the chance that the animal will ever be able to find its way back. Irresponsible breeding for profit also contributes to the overflow of abandoned dogs at local shelters. We do not condone irresponsible breeding practices, but at the same time, we do not judge anyone for their choices.
SWR realizes that education is the key to restoring a balance in the relationship between man and his canine companion. This is why SWR focuses more on educating people, rather than trying to screen out as many potential adopters who may not initially have the best looking application. We feel that everyone deserves a chance to adopt a Small Wonder, but above all, our main priority is to insure that each animal we take in goes to the best home we can find, even if that means waiting an extra week or two to find that ultimate situation. So far, we have been very lucky in making some amazing connections between our Wonders and their new homes, with some amazing results!
SWR doesn't intend to save the planet, because it can't--no one person or organization can. However, if we all do our little part to help out, maybe more of Earth's children would not be homeless and wander through life with holes in their hearts, once filled with the love of those they once trusted. We believe that these beautiful small breed dogs are children of the Earth and deserve a chance to be loved...and to give love.
We realize that there are so many ways to make this planet a better place, and SWR was founded to save some of the little creatures of this beautiful planet that we all must share. And hopefully in the process, SWR can inspire others to do their part to help change this world for the better, whatever that part may be.
Small Wonders Rescue is strictly a not-for-profit animal rescue organization currently in the process of acquiring Non-Profit 501c3 status. This is a very costly and lengthy endeavor, but we feel it is appropriate and the right thing to do for an organization such as ours. As always, your contributions are welcome to assist us in our efforts to obtain this status, as well to as save more animals and keep the Rescue going.
