We can no longer accept any animals. Please don't ask us to. It hurts to have to say "No".
After many years working with several other organizations as well as running our own little shelter, we have had to make the tough decision to no longer take in any more cats. We still have some baby.young and adult cats which would love to find their own forever-homes but we have not had any requests for these kitties in a long time, so we are just closing up unless you'd like to adopt one of the kitties shown.. It is a heart-rending decision to have to make, but we have to stand firm. If you need help placing a cat, we have some suggestions listed below. But please don't ask us to take them; we hate to have to, but we will say "No".
If you think you have to give up your kitty, please first make sure you really have to let go of your baby. You've adopted your cat as a lifetime companion so please don't make this decision lightly. If the need is due to someone developing allergies, make certain it is the cat which is causing the symptoms. If you are sure, visit your pet shop to find out what is available to decrease allergy symptoms from pets. Also, just running a damp washcloth over kitty 2 or 3 times a day gets rid of most of the dander.
If you decide you really do have to part with your kitty, try the following suggestions. Many pet stores allow different pet groups to run adoptions on the weekends. Call your pet shop to find out when a representative from the group(s) will be there. Then take your kitties in & speak face to face with representatives. It is much harder to say "No" when looking at the kitty. Also, try calling your local vet office to see if they have any direct phone numbers for local groups and if any of the pet techs might be interested in fostering your kitties. And as much as I hate to say it, the pounds are there to help you. Use them as a last resort, but taking a kitty to the pound is much kinder than just turning it loose somewhere. And there is a final option. If you have inherited Grandma's cat & kitty just is not happy & is missing Grandma terribly, it is much kinder to take her to the vet & hold her while she is put to sleep than to subject her to the atmosphere of a pound. This is a difficult and final choice so consider it carefully.
If you are looking for a kitty, there are plenty available from the many organizations in your area. Just please don't forget about all of the wonderful older cats who would give anything for a lap of their very own! With a kitten, you never know quite how they are going to turn out. But our adult cats live in foster homes where we are able to really get to know them, so that we are then able to match the type of personality with what you are looking for. You might also consider adopting a mother/kitten combo. They are bonded for life & adjust very well to new circumstances.
