Maceo came to us from Sacramento. He was brought into the city shelter as a stray, but he captured the hearts of a veterinary hospital up there and they were determined to show him life can be better. He was over 40 lbs underweight, had an ear infection, needed entropian surgery (eyelids), and had to get neutered. They thought his tail would have to be amputated due to wounds that he kept re-opening from his non-stop wagging!! Through all this Maceo maintained a positive and loveable attitude. (Great news: he still has his tail--it was able to heal despite the constant wagging!!) After he was all patched up and got a clean bill of health, he came to live with us in San Francisco.
Maceo adores people! Everyone we meet: young, old, big, small, short, tall, Maceo just loves them all!!! He goes to work with Gary and is content to just hang out in the office laying near the desk. Maceo lives with our female pit bull and they get along great. However, Maceo can be dog reactive. He needs a responsible owner who will not set him up for failure. He is not a 'dog park' dog. Maceo has some doggy friends, but they meet in a slow, controlled, supervised way. Maceo is full of wiggles and love: you can't help but be in a good mood around him. He likes to take walks and does great on the leash. He went through a 2 week bootcamp training program and knows his commands well. Maceo is a big guy (80lbs at proper weight), because of his size and strength, he will need a strong and responsible owner that is committed helping him be the best dog he can be. Maceo loves kids, but also because of his size, is probably not great for a home with young kids--he'll knock them over as he walks by! HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Rocket Dog Rescue needs Temporary foster homes for dogs and puppies in the San Francisco Bay Area! We rescue dogs and puppies that are to be put to death at overcrowded shelters.. As a foster home, you would provide a safe, stable, loving temporary home for a deserving animal who is needing help. We provide basic veterinary care, spay, vaccines, training , and food if you would like. We also work very hard to place the dog, and would never leave you "stranded" with an animal. We do hold adoption fairs a few times a month, on the weekends, so the dog should be available to come to that, with his foster person.. all in all, it is an incredibly rewarding experience.. although you may have a shoe (or two) chewed, or a favorite carpet stained.. the gifts that you receive are so valuable.. the great feeling you have picking up a sweet little soul in your arms who would have died, needlessly,? if not for your help.. the gentle eyes full of trust and gratefulness.. and the real joy of seeing your foster dog find his "family".. Yes, it can be hard to give them up, but you get to help decide where the dog goes, we are all working on this together! Of course, if there is no way you can part with your rescue puppy, you can adopt! but if you do let them go to a special home, it is really so nice to see them, sometime later-walking down the street together, so happy! it is truly a gift to be involved with rescue of animals, open your heart, and become a foster home for a good dog today! please contact: kay@rocketdogrescue.org
Rocket Dog Rescue is a group of dedicated
