Our Featured Pet...
Pepper has been in our care since last summer. He was surrendered after his his family relocated from Missouri, yet sadly the condo they moved into would not allow them to keep their pets. Pepper is a 6 year old Cocker Spaniel with Dachshund, Scottie and Chihuahua in the mix. He is neutered, housetrained, current on shots, microchipped and had bloodwork done to confirm his good health. He has had very rare seizures in the past, but our vet does not consider them frequent enough to require medication. Free in spirit, extremely cheerful and speedy, this little dog is a good learner and a loyal companion. Pepper is clever, loving and an excellent watch dog with very acute hearing. He gets along well with other dogs and cats. He has a wonderful personality and would make a great addition to any family.

Who We Are
2nd Chance Dog Rescue, Inc. was founded in 1997. Its roots are in the Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania. In the fall of 2002, a new branch opened on the west coast when founder and president, Jill Parnham, moved to California. We are located in the hills above Acton, as a registered non-profit organization and an approved shelter facility-granted an "A" by L.A. County Animal Care and Control. We are also a proud member of Petfinder.com, AdoptAPet.com, an adoption partner with PetSmart and a rescue ambassador for Purina Pro Plan.
We are devoted to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of abused, abandoned or unwanted dogs. Our priority is on shelter dogs, foundlings, dogs from the homes of terminally ill owners and those left behind after their owner has passed on. When space is available we will also help with dogs whose owners are divorcing or have lost their homes. Each of our rescued dogs spend time in a foster home where they are housetrained and taught (or re-taught!!) basic house manners. During this time, an assessment is made of the dog and its particular needs with regard to a permanent home. Veterinary care is ongoing. Any obvious health problems are treated, and all necessary shots are given. All dogs are microchipped and either spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

Adopting a friend
We do our best to evaluate each dog thoroughly and give potential adopters detailed and accurate information. We do not adopt out aggressive dogs nor do we accept them into our program. Anyone interested in adopting a pet from 2nd Chance will first be asked to complete an Adoption Application. This can be obtained by calling our office, or on-line at www.2ndChanceDogRescue.org. Potential adopters will be required to provide references and give permission for a home check. Subject to approval, the adopter would then be invited to visit the dog in its foster home. During this time, questions will be asked about lifestyle, expectations of the dog, etc. Such questions are not aimed at offending anyone, but at trying to place the right dog in the right home. Remember, most of our dogs have been rejected at least once, and we want their new homes to be as close to perfect as possible. All our dogs must have house privileges. Assuming the adopter is interested in pursing the adoption process, representatives will then bring the dog to the home for a brief visit. If the adoption process is approved to proceed, the adopter will be asked to foster the dog for one month. At the time of delivery, the adoption fee is payable. If the dog is returned within the one month trial period, all monies are returned. Our adoption fees are: PURE-BRED DOGS $200, MIXED BREED DOGS $150, SENIOR DOGS $100. After the initial month long trial period, and if all is going well, the adoption becomes final. However, 2nd Chance reserves the right to re-claim the dog if the terms of our Adoption Contract are not being met. Ongoing support and advice is available for the lifetime of the dog. If the dog is given up at any time in the future, it must be returned to 2nd Chance, but the adoption fee is not refunded. FURTHER, WE WILL ALWAYS TAKE BACK ANY DOG ADOPTED FROM US. Please also note that we offer low cost grooming and boarding to any of our alumni. These fees go directly towards helping other dogs in our foster program.
