Our Featured Pet...

PEPPER, A MALAMUTE FEMALE, 2 YEARS OLD AND DUCE, A 5 YEAR OLD SIBERIAN HUSKY ARE TWO OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND LOVING DOGS ANYONE COULD KNOW. THEY PLAY SO WELL TOGETHER AND LOVE TO RUN THE 5 ACRES HERE AND DIVE INTO WADING POOLS TO ROLL AROUND AND COOL OFF. THEY BOTH HAVE VERY LOW PREY DRIVES WHICH IS REMARKABLE FOR THIER BREEDS AND HAVE FIVE SMALL DOGS UNDER 15 PDS THAT LOVE TO RUN AND PLAY WITH THEM WHILE WE MONITOR THEM. THEY WOULD MAKE WONDERFUL FAMILY DOGS AND ALREADY SIT ON COMMAND, WALK WELL ON LEASH, SHAKE HANDS, OR PAWS, AND TAKE FOOD GENTLY FROM YOUR HAND. THEY BOTH WANT TO BE LAP DOGS AND DUCE IS A REAL HAM AS HE JUMPS ONTO THE GOLF CART AND GOES FOR A RIDE WITH MOST OF HIM SITTING ON YOUR LAP. GREAT GREAT DOGS.

LOTS OF NEW SHELTERS HAVE GONE UP TO PROVIDE LOTS OF SHADE AND SHELTER FROM THE RAIN AND THE DOGS SEEMED VERY PLEASED WITH THE NEW ADDITIONS. NEW ,FUN TO CLIMB ,BUSHES HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE FERAL CAT SANCTUARY AND THEY ARE REALLY PLEASED WITH THE NEW ADDITIONS. LOTS OF NEW TREES ARE BEING ADDED EVERYWHERE TO CREATE A JUNGLE TYPE COOL ATMOSPHERE. AND A WONDERFUL MISTING SYSTEM HAS BEEN SET UP IN SOME OF THE TREES SO WHEN A BREEZE COMES BY IT HELPS THE TREES MIST A LARGE AREA AND ITS AMAZING JUST HOW IT DROPS THE TEMPERATURE. UPDATE: SAD TO REPORT JJ DIED ON NEW YEARS EVE AND SO ITS WITH A HEAVY HEART WE START OUT 2009 BUT WE KNOW HE HAD A GREAT LIFE AND WE WERE WITH HIM AT THE END. BLESS YOU JJ. RIP JULY 2013; ALL THE GOATS HAVE PASSED AWAY EXCEPT FOR MAMMA AND PEPPI, THEY ARE IN THEIR TEENS BUT EXCEPT FOR SOME ARTHRITIS ARE DOING WELL. WE HAVE WELCOMED A GREAT NEW DOG TO THE SANCTUARY, HIS NAME IS "SONNY" AND HE IS A WONDERFUL OLD MAN WITH ONE EYE. Who We Are

HAKUNA MATATA RESCUE AND SANCTUARY IS A NON-PROFIT, 501 C-3 . HMR TAKES IN STRAYS AND ABANDONED DOGS , INJURED OR ABUSED DOGS AND SOME ARE BAILED OUT OF OUR LOCAL SHELTER. HMR HAS NUMEROUS OLD, CRIPPLED DOGS, DOGS WITH MEDICAL PROBLEMS SUCH AS EPILEPSEY, CANCER, BLINDNESS AND DOGS THAT MOST PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO ADOPT, IE, DOGS WITH ONLY THREE LEGS ETC. HMR MAKES SURE ALL OF THESE DOGS GET THE BEST OF CARE, INCLUDING GREAT FOOD, WARM BEDS, GROOMING, HANDS ON LOVING AND PLAY. HMR IS A NO KILL RESCUE AND SANCTARY, WHERE EVERYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO GIVE THE ANIMAL A GREAT QUALITY OF LIFE IS DONE, BUT QUALITY OF LIFE IS THE KEY. WE DO OUR VERY BEST TO ACHIEVE A "NO WORRY" ATMOSPHERE FOR ALL OF OUR FOUR LEGGED FRIENDS. HMR. IS SITUATED ON 5 ACRES OF SECLUDED LEVEL LAND WITH LARGE SHADE TREES, SAND HILLS TO PLAY "KING OF THE MOUNTAIN " ON AND MANY WADING POOLS TO COOL DOWN IN DURING THE SUMMER. A NEVER ENDING SUPPLY OF TENNIS BALLS, STUFFYS, SQUEEKIES, TOYS AND DELICIOUS BISCUITS ARE ALWAYS ON HAND. ALL THE DOGS PARTAKE IN THE RAW MEAT DIET THREE TIMES A WEEK AND THIS IS ONE OF THE HIGH SPOTS OF THEIR LIVES. HMR HAS NOW STARTED TAKING IN PARALIZED DOGS INTO THE SANCTUARY AND NOW HAVE TWO, ROSCOE AND SASSY BRITCHES. ROSCOE IS DOING WELL WITH HIS "WHEELS" BUT SASSY ISN'T SO SURE ABOUT HERS. THEY ARE REAL FIGHTERS AND REALLY SEEM TO BE ENJOYING THEIR LIFE. WE HAVE ALSO TAKEN IN THREE TERRIBLY INBRED RAT TERRIER PUPPIES BORN ON CHRISTMAS 2007. THEY HAVE LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH ROACHED BACKS AND JOINT PROBLEMS AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WALKING WELL BUT THEY ALL HAD THIS SPECIAL DESIRE TO SURVIVE . WITH PHYSICAL THERAPY, COLD LASER AND HYDROTHERAPY, MASSAGE, LOVE AND GREAT FOOD THEY ARE DOING SOOOOO WELL. THEY LOVE TO BE CUDDLED AND TAKE THEIR WALKS IN THE SUN, LIE IN THE SUN ON THEIR THICK COMFORTERS AND JUST BE LOVED. SO GLAD WE DECIDED TO GIVE THEM A CHANCE. ALTHOUGH THEIR TREATMENTS ARE COSTLY, ITS BEEN WORTH IT SEEING THEIR LITTLE SMILING FACES AS THEY PROGRESS EACH MONTH. DONATIONS FOR THESE THREE LITTLE GUYS AND FOR ROSCOE AND SASSY AND NOW SAMANTHA ,(WHO JUST CAME IN AND NEEDS WHEELS OF HER OWN) ARE REALLY NEEDED TO KEEP UP THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE. UPDATE: MAY 2009, SAM GOT HER WHEELS AND IS STARTING TO ENJOY HER WALKS WITH HER BUDDIES. UPDATE: DEC 2009: ITS AGAIN WITH A HEAVY HEART THAT WE TELL YOU THAT LITTLE BECKUM PASSED AWAY DECEMBER 4. HE WAS GOING TO BE THREE YEARS OLD ON CHRISTMAS DAY BUT DUE TO CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE HE WAS UNABLE TO MAKE IT. HE WAS LOVED BY ALL AND WAS A TRUE LITTLE "TROOPER" WHO FOUGHT HARD FOR THREE YEARS FOR LIFE. WE KNOW HE WAS HAPPY FOR MOST OF THE THREE YEARS AND WE WHO LOVED AND CARED FOR HIM WERE WITH HIM AT THE END. BECKY LEAVES HIS BROTHERS, WILSON AND TIPPY TOES, BEHIND. REST IN PEACE LITTLE GUY. UPDATE: JULY 2013: TIPPY TOES AND WILSON, ROSCOE AND SASSY BRITCHES ARE DOING VERY WELL. IN 2012 WE ADDED LITTLE "MIGHTY MOUSE" TO OUR PACK OF SPECIAL NEEDS DOGS. SHE IS A TINY APPLE HEAD CHIHUAHUA THAT WAS EXTREMELY ABUSED AND PARALIZED FROM THE ABUSE. SHE HAS HER WHEELS AND SHE IS A WILD WOMAN WHEN SET FREE TO RUN WITH HER OTHER SPECIAL BUDDIES. ALSO ADDED IS TINY "LONELY" ANOTHER ABUSED, NEGLECTED LITTLE TERRIER. HE IS RATHER OLD BUT FEISTY AND LOVES LIFE. HE HAS HIS WHEELS AND IS ANOTHER HAPPY WILD ONE WHEN SET FREE TO RUN THE FIVE ACRES. HE'S A LITTLE WOBBLY WHEN NOT IN HIS WHEELS BUT HE IS IMPROVING REMARKABLY AND I REALLY THINK IN TIME HE WILL BE WALKING ON HIS OWN. TIME WILL TELL. AS WITH ALL RESCUES THAT TAKE IN SENIOR DOGS, YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE SOME AS TIME GOES ON AND HMR IS NO EXCEPTION. WE LOST 12 OF OUR SWEET BABIES IN 2012 TO 2013 BUT THEY WERE ALL OVER 16 YEARS OF AGE AND HAD MEDICAL PROBLEMS, THAT MOST ALL OLD DOGS GET. THEY HAD A GREAT TIME AT HMR AND HAD ALL THE CARE AND LOVE ONE COULD GIVE AND THEY ARE NOW HOME AND GOD HAS A LOT MORE FURRY FACES SITTING NEXT TO HIM. HMR NOW HAS A WEB SITE : WWW.HAKUNAMATATARESCUE.ORG IF INTERESTED IN ANY OF THE HMR DOGS PLEASE GO TO OUR WEB SITE AND FILL IN AN ON LINE APPLICATION AND FORWARD IT TO US, WE WILL CONTACT YOU TO GO OVER ALL THE INFORMATION. FEBRUARY 2014 UPDATE: ITS THAT TIME AGAIN FOR SOME OF OUR SENIORS TO GO HOME AND LIVE WITH GOD. STRAWBERRY WAS A HAND RAISED ABANDONED TREE WEEK OLD KITTEN THAT LIVED TO BE 16 YEARS OLD WHEN SHE WENT INTO KIDNEY FAILURE AND PASSED ON. CALLIE WAS ALSO A TINY KITTEN WHEN WE FOUND HER WALKING DOWN A MAIN STREET. SHE ALSO WENT INTO KIDNEY FAILURE AND PASSED ON BUT SHE ALSO LIVED 17 GOOD YEARS WITH HMR. RIP SWEET BABIES. THERE IS GOOD NEWS ALSO, LITTLE LONELY IS WALKING WELL ON HIS OWN, ACTUALLY RUNNING ON HIS OWN. HURRAY!!!!!!
