How we got started in Rescue:

My husband and I got started saving dog lives 10 years ago.We only had one dog living with us in a Condo near the beach. My husband wanted to get a lapdog for quite a while. As we were sitting in front of a petstore to get people aware of the slaughter of Wolves in Yellowstone, the SPCA was on the other side adopting out dogs and spreading awareness to adopt, spay and neuter. We talked to a girl who told us about 2 purebred Shar-peis that were in the S.P.C.A. I didn't think too much of it then and went on with my life. 2 weeks later my husband mentioned again to find a lapdog and find a friend for our Boxer-Shar-pei mix. Off we went to the SPCA, sure enough there was this ugly excuse of a Shar-pei, he weighed about 30 pounds and his wrinkles were hanging to the floor, you could count every rib, hardly had any fur left on his body, none on his face, and could hardly see his beedy little eyes because they needed surgery, and there was no sign of his brother. My husband was glued to his cage because he was getting licked by a big purple tongue; he just kept on repeating how skinny he was. So we checked at the front so we could meet the dog outside in a fenced area with another dog to make sure he would get along with our female, but instead of bringing a female they brought an aggressive male out, so that did not go well. They said that it may be best NOT to get him, I said no way. I'm going home and bringing my female, which we did. They met and all was fine. After he got neutered we picked him up and our new life began. Oh boy, our lives were turned upside down with this new addition. It was not a quiet serene life anymore. Bear as we named him was a very hyper and scared boy. He would follow me every step all day long. It took us a year to have him look like a real Shar-pei, a whole new coat (chocolate brown), and have his eye surgery done. He had the mange so we took care of that, had a skin and ear infection, took care of that, had colitis, took care of that, and had separation anxiety and worked to ease that. We spent a lot of time together and he became mamas-boy and still is after 7 beautiful years. He's almost 8 or 9 now, he's my bubba-boy. We moved to the mountains in 2001 on 40 acres. Bear and his girl Spirit live with 3 more dog companions with us as part of the family. Bear is the leader alpha and a very happy and good-looking boy. He has 3 girls and another 140 pound male under him all live happily and spoiled as our friends and companions.

Our Mission:

Create awareness of how IMPORTANT it is to spay/neuter all animals. Find foster homes where dogs can stay safe until adopted into great forever homes. Help place owner surrender dogs into loving homes. SADT pulls animals out of kill shelters, re-trains, rehabilitates and loves them, cares for them, get each of them needed medical care, find them the perfect matching family. Not just a home but the best possible match for dog and human because of matching we have a 99% of NO return dogs. We consider the dog and human lifestyles, and carefully select the right home as we want dog/human to be together happily ever after. We are a 501(c3) nonprofit. Our long term goal is to get a piece of land donated to us and create a Sanctuary for homeless dogs, it will take lots of donations and many hours of work but all dreams can come true and we're working on ours. If you like to help us make our dream come true so we can save many more lives make a monthly donation, sponsor one of our rescue dogs, donate dogbeds, food, blankets, toys or anything that can be of use if it's old or new dog leashes/collars, crates, kennels, fencing, doghouses. We will pick up if you live in the Redding area.

HOW YOU CAN HELP!

By adopting a rescue dog either from our rescues or in your area. By Spaying and Neutering the dogs to prevent unwanted litters that end up in pounds 9 out of 10 times. By taking your pet with you when you move and find a pet-friendly home.

By not giving up an old pet that you had already for 10 years, no one will adopt it. The dog will DIE in the pound. By making sure you pick a pet and breed that fits your lifestyle so you don't have to DUMP it.

By making sure that YOU are responsible to train and teach your pet how to behave the day you get it. So you don't have to DUMP it because of whatever the pet did wrong.

By making sure YOU don't believe that YOUR dumped dog will be adopted only because it's a purebred, many purebreds get put down in pounds all over the US. By making sure that if you love animals you will bond, and take care of them by feeding, exercising, putting up a fence, and have health care(check-ups). They are just like having a small child. It takes that much responsibility for 10-15 or more years, not until YOU ARE tired of the pet. It's a big commitment so make sure you think before you adopt a pet.

Pets are a LIFETIME commitment; do not apply if you are not 100% ready to take it on?

SAVE A DOG TODAY is a 501 (C) (3) Non-Profit ...PLEASE spay and neuter your pets!
