Our Pet List

All contact re animals should be sent to rescuepals10@yahoo.com. Please note that we do email the potential adopters that seem to be most qualified from the emails sent..... .Adoption day is usually Saturday--- pups available are listed, email for questions>----- Adoptions are usually held (when we have sufficient adopters) on a Saturday either in Sacramento or possibly near Chico ---- 11am to 1pm We may ask for a confirmation deposit of $20 (refundable as long as you show up) due to the high percentage of no shows --------> Occasionally we will hold an event on Sunday instead. All adopters "must" be prequalified------>.......(1) for Adoption Process please read **E N T I R E** page below------(there is NO online application) B-E-F-O-R-E you submit your personal information to us. All information given is considered confidential. Many people do not realize that the dogs acquired at the highest cost to owner, are the ones that seldom ever enter shelters. This indicates that too low of a price for animals in the long run tends to make them more vulnerable to being surrendered. No dogs are considered housebroken unless specifically indicated. ALTERING a dog MAY (not will) stop some dog-dog behavior--it will not stop dog aggression against HUMANS. This is a MYTH!

**** WE DO NOT SHOW DOGS ON OTHER DAYS, JUST ON ADOPTION DAY EVENTS.*** Many of our pets have *never* been inside an animal shelter. We are of the belief that the time to rescue an animal is "before" it enters the animal pound. Occasionally we may take shelter animals. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ( If you know someone that has to place a smaller dog, please have them contact us before putting the dog in the pound.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------We are one of the few rescues that place owner dogs.------------------------------------------------

.........

Who We Are..

~~~ We use ADOPTION EVENTS to place pets.. ~ We do not maintain a kennel facility or a "shelter", we use FOSTER FAMILIES.....We are a "No-Kill" Group. ~~We DO take owner relinquished pets..... and we prefer to take animals which have not had to enter the animal shelter. Our main focus is on pups and smaller dogs, and we do get AKC pets on occasion as well.
Some of our pets are *not* for first time owners and may require some behavior training or potty training. ( In general, we do not knowingly take dogs into the rescue that are dog or people aggressive, have severe separation anxiety, have severe barking issues, are anti-social, are known biters, fear biters, or have severe medical conditions. We also usually do not take dogs from shelters that cannot pass temperament testing.) Many dogs that inflict bites to children are fear biters and other dogs may have an instinctive high prey drive. Owners should understand these concepts and choose their pets carefully. Our personal (subjective) belief for pets we would not recommend for young children include purebred chihuahuas, cocker spaniels, yorkies and toy dogs under 5lbs, ; for very young children we also do not recommend herding breed dogs unless the children have grown up with one.
Adopting A Friend........
~~~~~ PET ADOPTION PROCESS.....Please read before asking questions....THERE IS NO "ONLINE" APPLICATION..............
1. We must first get information *from you*, --- via email--- on yourself/family/children-ages/your dog or cat history/your residence/pets/-----Information that *you* think would be helpful to make initial determination of suitability. This can be done INFORMALLY via email...... Please be specific as your initial response will count heavily in the process. ....most -- if not all--- rescues do require personal information in order to determine applicant suitability...... ~~Please note that false information will automatically disqualify an applicant~~

2. We then may ask you specific questions.~~....When sending us information, you cannot tell us "too much", so please be as detailed as possible... such as, we own a house, or, we rent an apartment, we have a fenced yard, we have a cat and 2 other dogs, etc.... For example, if you tell us you have children, we may ask you what safety training you have done with your kids in regard to dogs ....if you say you have a dog, we will want to know how long and how old and what type dog.....etc....

3. If you find that this process is too time consuming or too much of a hassle for you, please look for another source in obtaining a dog. Our volunteer time is spent on this process for reasons inherent to rescuing. . ****** Due to severe time limitations, volume of email and time cost, as volunteers, we correspond only by email.

4. We strive to find the best homes for these pets. By this we mean we search for a family that meets the dog's needs. (Not necesarily vice versa.) Many think that if they are qualified adopters, they can adopt "any" dog we have, however, many of the pets have specific needs/or criteria which require certain situations. It will depend upon which pet is selected.

5. We are looking for adopters who are willing to spend whatever it takes to keep the pet in good condition ... Although not an absolute necessity, we do prefer adopters who are experienced with pets; at the very least, we expect owners to be somewhat knowledgeable about dogs in general, and to have done some type of preparation in *advance.* We find that adopters who have done their homework do far better as owners. We want a good fit for each pet. For 'owner' courtesy postings, where we do not own the dog, we are still helping to rehome the dog, but will be slightly less stringent in the process, and we do not set the adoption fee, the owner does.

Adoption fee, which is your donation, will vary on each pet. (The rescue reserves the right Not to accept checks for adoption fees.) (Examples of adoption fees are Homeward Bound Golden Retrievers, "11yr old" dog--$150, "3yr old" dog, $250; German Shepherd Rescue, $210, Chico Boxer Rescue, $250....Sierra Great Pyr rescue, 1yr and under, $325.....) Please note: * If you find this cost to be prohibitive, please do not email us. The *real* expense of having a pet is in the care and proper maintenance, which can get expensive. Many people fail to realize/consider this prior to obtaining a pet. Research shows that most shelter animals were obtained at little or no cost to the owners, and those owners had no qualms about putting the pet in the pound. Are you against dog breeders or breeding? If so , consider the fact that well-tempered dogs must come from somewhere; a reputable breeder should know how to establish temperament/health/looks. Eliminating good breeders is not the answer. Contrary to the position of the HSUS, commercial kennel dogs have been living with us for decades legally.

ADOPTION DAY EVENTS.....--Please email for next event!!

~~Currently we usually show pets on a Saturday........The event dates are not precalendered in advance...........so we do not show pets every Saturday, but we do our best to show them frequently.

Many pets are turned in to shelters for reasons such as pet takes up too much time, family is having a new human baby , pet keeps barking, pet isnt housetrained, pet went after my cat ...... while certain situations warrant placing a pet, we believe that many reasons are avoidable, and can be worked out if given the proper knowledge and time........* Think carefully about it. A pet is not a disposable commodity. After the "cute" puppy stage is gone, you will be left with a grown dog.............. ~~~
