As all of the dogs that are housed at the shelter are deserving of finding new loving forever homes, we do not ‘feature’ just one on this site. In our minds and hearts, they are all ‘featured dogs’.
The Corning Animal Shelter and Second Chance Pet Rescue are always striving to improve conditions at the shelter. For current news, events and blogs about the shelter visit www.second-chance-pets.org.
Who We Are
The Corning Animal Shelter is in Northern California. The organization that posts the dogs on this site and, more importantly, takes care of the dogs at the shelter is. SECOND CHANGE PET RESCUE AND ADOPTION.
Second Chance Pet Rescue is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization that was formed to work exclusively at the Corning Animal Shelter as caretakers and advocates of the animals, while also providing education to all local schools and communities in Northern California. Second Chance Pet Rescue is a volunteer-based organization and depends on donations to keep up the work needed. The City of Corning gives no financial support to the caretakers of the shelter but do pay all expenses associated with the shelter grounds which are owned by the city. Second Chance Pet Rescue has added outdoor pens and play yard through grants and donations.
The City of Corning and Second Chance Pet Rescue work together in providing a safe haven for the dogs found within the city's limits. The Corning Animal Shelter only has facilities for dogs.
Adopting a friend
An application must be submitted and approved, in order to ensure a good life for both pet and new adopter. Adoption fees vary but include current vaccinations, spaying or neutering, and Rabies vaccination. We temperament test all of the dogs coming into the shelter and strive to match up the perfect dog for your family.
Pit Bull Promenade Showcase
Due to the large number of pit bulls that come into the shelter we have done some investigating and training on this breed. We have found them to be fabulous family pets. Our Showcase pit bulls are the ambassadors of the breed. All are spayed/neutered before being adopted. They all go through obedience training and preparation for their AKC Canine Good Citizen certification. All are microchipped, vaccinated, and tested for heartworms. Our potential pit bull adopters must go through more extensive pre-adoption screening because only the best pit bulls will go out into the community and only the best homes will be certified for placement. Due to this special program and the time taken for training, the adoption fee for pit bulls is $150. We have information about pit bulls that are a must for adopters and we gladly share this information with anyone wanting to know more about this great breed.
