Our Pet List

Our Featured Pet...

ALL of the pets listed are special and featured! And they all have been temperament tested and deserve to have a new forever home.

News

We are reconstructing our play yard!! Our current play yard consists of farm pallets nailed together. The dogs enjoy their time in play groups and the new yard will be bigger and made with chain link fencing. Reconstruction of the play yard at the Corning Animal Shelter is made possible in part by a grant from Animal Farm Foundation, Inc. www.animalfarmfoundation.org.

Who We Are

Second Chance Pet Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue organization working exclusively with the Corning Animal Shelter. Our goal is to prevent the euthanasia of the adoptable animals, who find themselves at the shelter and give them a second chance at life.

Adopting a friend

An application must be submitted and approved, in order to ensure a good life for both pet and new guardian. The adoption fee is $40, which includes spaying or neutering and Rabies vaccination. We temperament test all of the dogs coming into the shelter and strive to match up the perfect dog for your family. We have transporters standing by to get a lucky dog to a new home for those people out of the area.

Pit Bull Promenade Showcase

Due to the large number of pit bulls that come into the shelter we have done some investigating and training on this breed. We have found them to be fabulous family pets. Our Showcase pit bulls are the ambassadors of the breed. All are spayed/neutered before being adopted. They all go through obedience training and preparation for their Canine Good Citizen certification. All are microchipped, vaccinated, and tested for heartworms. Our potential pit bull adopters must go through more extensive pre-adoption screening because only the best pit bulls will go out into the community and only the best homes will be certified for placement. Due to this special program and the time taken for training, the adoption fee for pit bulls is $135. We have information about pit bulls that are a must for adopters and we gladly share this information with anyone wanting to know more about this great breed.

Come Visit Us!

The shelter is open 7 days a week in the evening and on weekends with advance notice. We have an onsite resident caretaker, who will gladly accommodate your schedule and show you the marvelous dogs waiting for new homes. The caretaker is knowledgeable about all the dogs and can match up the perfect pet for your family.
