News

OKP Farmer's Market Events are closed for the chilly season. Please check out our kittens online and fill out the questionnaire to meet them in person. We will see you back at the Farmer's Market in the spring!

We continue to get post new kittens as they come available for adoption, so please check back frequently if you are looking for a specific type of kitten.

Who We Are

Orphan Kitten Project (OKP) is a rescue program run by the Feline Medicine Club at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

The purpose of this Project is twofold:

  1. To reduce the feral cat population by rescuing stray kittens and spaying or neutering them before adoption
  2. To train future veterinarians in the husbandry and medical care of feline neonates.

We take in kittens from shelters and good Samaritans and raise them in foster homes until they are old enough to be adopted. No healthy kittens are euthanized because a permanent home cannot be found. All kittens remain in the program until they are adopted out.

How to Help

There are many ways to help OKP!

Become a Foster

We do not have a facility and need foster volunteers to house and care for our kittens. OKP will provide all the necessary supplies and medical care if you choose to become a foster. To volunteer or request more info, please e-mail us at OrphanKittenProject@gmail.com.

Donate

OKP is a not-for-profit organization and relies completely on fundraising and the generosity of donors to operate.

You can donate via PayPal:

We also accept donations of kitten food (dry and wet), cat litter (clumping and non-clumping) and pet carriers. Please e-mail us to make sure it's something we can use so we can arrange to have it dropped off.

Buy an OKP T-shirt or can food lids

We sell T-shirts and can lids featuring our logo and contact info so you can help spread the word! Shirts are $15 each, come in unisex S, M, and L in blue or yellow. Can lids fit two standard can sizes and are $2. Both will be available at our Saturday Farmer's Market events, or you can contact us by e-mail to buy them: OrphanKittenProject@gmail.com.

OKP and the kittens thank you for your support!

Contact Us

To adopt a kitten, please fill out the form on the right. For any questions, concerns, donations, or volunteer inquiries (or if the form does not work):

We check our voicemail frequently but will respond faster by e-mail.

Adopt a Kitten

Adoption fee is $85 per kitten and includes spay/neuter surgery, deworming, FeLV testing, first two FVRCP vaccines, and microchip with registration. Our kittens become adoptable usually at 12-16 weeks of age to allow time for these procedures.

Adoption fee is $60 for an adult cat and includes spay/neuter surgery, deworming, FeLV (and FIV) testing, vaccines (FVRCP and rabies), and microchip with registration.

The adoption fee actually does not fully cover the cost of raising kittens which also includes formula, food, medications, bottles, carriers, and other supplies. We rely on other Feline Medicine Club fundraisers and donations from our generous supporters to help defray these costs.

Adoption Questionnaire

If you are interested in adopting a kitten, please fill out and submit the following Adoption Questionnaire. It is long, but please fill it out as completely as possible to give yourself the best chance of adopting a kitten. We will have their foster contact you to find a good time to meet your new furry friend! If the form does not work for you, please e-mail OrphanKittenProject@gmail.com and we will send you a copy.

In order to be considered as an adopter, you must be 18 years old and agree to provide lifelong care for the cat.

OKP has the right to deny any adoption application.
