Who We Are

The Rabbit Center is a rabbit-only shelter located in Richmond, CA. In addition to housing approximately 35 adoptable rabbits, it serves as the international headquarters for the House Rabbit Society (visit www.rabbit.org for more information on our programs and to find out about our other locations).

The House Rabbit Society is a non-profit organization devoted to the rescue of rabbits, the third most popular house pet as well as the third most euthanized animal in America. The House Rabbit Society believes that ALL rabbits are valuable as individuals, regardless of breed, temperament, state of health, or relationship to humans. The welfare of all rabbits is our primary consideration.

Our mission has two parts: Through our intake program, we rescue rabbits who are out of time at local animal shelters and find permanent adoptive homes for them; through education, we seek to reduce the number of unwanted rabbits -- and to improve bunnies' lives -- by helping people better understand these often misunderstood companion animals.

Adopting a friend

If you see a rabbit who you may be interested in, please come to our shelter to talk to our volunteers, read our care materials, and to fill out our pre-adoption application.
