Hearts for Hounds Adoption Process:
Hi, I'm Toby!
I was stinky and haven't had a haircut in a loooooog time! But Bonnie
didn't care! She saw through all my matted hair and knew I was a little
angel in disguise!
Photo #1 shows me in front of the shelter. I was very happy to be
going home with Bonnie. Look at the big smile I had on my face! Yah!!!
Toys! Treats! New doggy friends! I'll never forget the big hug I got
from Bonnie.
Photo #2 was taken when I was getting groomed. It took a while (yup!
2 sessions, 2 days!). Bonnie wanted to be careful separating the mats
from my skin. I feel much cleaner but all of sudden, I got sleepy...
Photo #3 is from one of my beautiful portraits! I feel much better and
look at how white my coat is now! At this point, I received all the
necessary medical treatment, was groomed, and had a chance to eat some
really yummy food and relax from a stressful experience. I'm all ready to
find a family I can love and kiss all day long!
Photo #4: We were at the Irvine Super Adoption. A volunteer from
Disney community team played with me and my other pals! Everyone loved me!
I was a hit at the fair.
Photo #5: Woohoo! I found a home! I sat quietly while my new mommy
filled out an application to take me home! Hummmm…a mom, a dad, and 2
sisters...this is going to be fun!
Hearts for Hounds is a non-profit 501(c)(3) dog rescue. Because of our
impeccable records, we are recognized by the State of California as an
organization that benefits the community. Our mission is to rescue as many
healthy dogs as possible from local shelters and give them a second chance in
life.
Most of Hearts for Hounds dogs come from local area shelters, where they
have stayed their term and have no other place to go. We bring them into Hearts
for Hounds and give them the care and treatment that they need and deserve, and
have them spayed or neutered. We then place them on the
"Available Dogs" page with the hopes that someone like you
will see them to be as special as we see each and every one.
There are rules to the adoption process that will be shared with you prior
to your adopting a dog. We take these rules very seriously for the sake and
welfare of the dogs, not to seem difficult with our potential families. Once
in a while, we have to ask personal questions but please understand that it's in
the efforts of making the best match possible between you and your new family
addition.
Even though we are honored with special privileges including being able to
ask for public assistance from the community and can offer a tax deductible
donation receipt to our supporters, we do not receive government funding! So,
we rely heavily on the generosity of our community. There is an adoption
donation associated with every adoption. This helps us fund our future animal
welfare projects and assist in continuing our rescuing efforts.
Adoption Process can be simple but we ask that you be patient with us in
the process. Our goal is to make sure individual dogs are matched up with the
right family and activity level. This will save time, energy, and the
unnecessary heartache for both you and the dogs. We want this to be a happy and
positive experience for all parties involved.
We sincerely wish you find the doggy companion of your dreams in this process!
Five easy steps to finding a loving companion at Hearts for Hounds:
-
Call Bonnie at 760-244-4808 when you see a dog of interest on our website.
Click here to see our dogs. Please provide your
name, phone number and the specific dog in which you are interested.
Please also be patient as we all work and we do receive many calls during the
day. Bonnie will get back with you ASAP.
- If we determine it's a possible match, we'll arrange for a time to meet
(mostly at one of our adoption events). If not,
we'll often recommend another dog we think is a better match with your home
environment and lifestyle. Please trust us in this process. Bonnie has
over 15 years of experience "matchmaking" families with dogs.
-
Once you determine you have found your new family addition, we ask you to
fill out an
Adoption Application
and bring it with you to our adoption event. This will speed up the adoption
process at the event. If you forget, no worries! We have applications at
our events.
-
At the event, you'll have a chance to walk the dog and make sure it is a
match made in heaven. We encourage you to bring your own dog(s) and any
family members that will be making the decision with you.
-
One last little chat with us to insure we've made the right match. You
make a donation to the rescue to support our ongoing animal welfare efforts
and take your new family member home.
Note: Once the adoption is finalized, you should have your new doggy
companion, adoption paperwork, a donation receipt, medical records, & a
free vet check card. You can also stop by Petco for your free coupon book.
You will find lots of savings!
We encourage you to come to any of our adoption events
as we feel that is the best way for you to get to know your potential new
addition to your family.
We hope to assist you in finding a companion that will fit well within your
home and family. We do understand that from time to time, a perfect match will
not be achieved, so we will gladly work with you - we want you to be as happy as
your new companion is in your home.
