Our adoption process is designed to help you and the right dog find each other. Our goal is to place each dog into a permanent, safe, and loving home.

To adopt a German Shepherd Dog from us, you must:

1. Live in Northern California.
2. Complete an Adoption Questionnaire, either online, or hard-copy (pdf format). If you do not own your home, your landlord must provide the completed Landlord Letter (pdf format).
3. Be interviewed by an adoption counselor.
4. Allow a home visit conducted by a GSRNC adoption counselor.
5. Choose, and be chosen by, the right dog.
6. With our approval, sign our Adoption Agreement, and pay the associated adoption fee.

After we receive your online Adoption Questionnaire, a GSRNC adoption counselor will contact you to begin the process. We encourage potential adopters to come to one or more Adoption Days as this is the best way to meet several German Shepherds and to find your new companion. You may be able to adopt the same day, if all adoption requirements are met.

If you come to an Adoption Day before submitting an adoption questionnaire, the process of adopting can sometimes be accelerated depending on the availability of volunteers. Normally, all our requirements must be met before an adoption can be completed. Due to resource and policy we do not adopt to homes outside of Northern California.

If you cannot come to any Adoption Day, we will try to assist you using email, the mail, and the telephone. This will probably take longer because the people who will help you are volunteers who usually have jobs and families, and the logistics associated with scheduling meetings with dogs can be complex because our dogs live in many foster homes and kennels.

German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California regularly adopts dogs to residents of any of 19 Northern California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Madera, Marin, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento, San Benito, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne. We also consider, resources permitting, potential adopters residing in Lake County. Our educational outreach extends to anywhere in Northern California. We do not adopt to homes outside of Northern California.

Goals

The specific purpose of our organization is the prevention of cruelty to animals by:

• Rescuing German Shepherd Dogs from life threatening situations at animal shelters and elsewhere.
• Finding German Shepherd Dogs permanent loving homes with qualified owners.
• Assisting owners of German Shepherd Dogs who can no longer keep them to find them new homes.
• Working cooperatively with animal shelters and other rescue groups in the community towards our common goals of saving dogs' lives and reducing pet overpopulation.
• Educating the public about the advantages of adopting dogs from shelters and rescue organizations, and about the need for spaying and neutering dogs.
• Educating owners and prospective owners of German Shepherd Dogs about their proper care and training, and about other aspects of the breed.

Directions
From the East Bay

Take I 680 south to Mission Blvd connector to I 880 and continue south on I 880 (it turns into Hwy 17 at the I 280 interchange) to Hamilton Ave exit (East). Turn right on Bascom Ave, it's about a mile south on the left. You do have to make a U-turn to get to it, but it's right on the street - can't miss it.
