Did You Know?

Many young puppies and kittens who enter animal shelters are euthanized (put to sleep) without ever being offered for adoption to the public.

Many highly adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens - highly adoptable based on their personality, breed and age - are euthanized at animal shelters because they arrive with or come down with a highly treatable illness or injury while at the animal shelter or because they are too young for adoption at the time they arrive at the shelter.

There are a limited number of foster homes and rescue groups available to take these animals from shelters and provide them with the care they need until they can be adopted into a permanent home.

How Do We Help?

California Animal Shelter Friends, Inc. is a non-profit rescue group dedicated to rescuing these "at risk" animals. We work with public animal shelters throughout California to identify and save the lives of these animals who are highly adoptable but who require some good veterinary and foster care before going to their permanent homes.

How Can You Help?

Adopt through CASF

Why Adopt From CASF?

1. HIGHLY ADOPTABLE - We rescue highly adoptable animals - most of the animals we rescue are very young, very sweet and by the time they leave our care they have been provided with any needed medical care. These animals will make great companions.

2. MEDICAL CARE - Our animals are spayed or neutered, microchippped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated with flea and heartworm control and provided with other medical care before they go to their new homes.

3. DISEASE CONTROL - All of the animals that we rescue from shelters undergo a strict 14 day quarantine upon arrival so that we can see what illnesses if any they may develop as a result of their stay in a public shelter and provide them with proper care as needed.

4. SOCIALIZATION - Our animals are socialized with people - adults and children, provided with plenty of toys and treats to keep them stimulated and happy while they wait to go to their new homes.

5. UPDATED WEBSITES - We update our websites daily so that animals you see listed as available really are available.

6. QUICK RESPONSE - We respond to e-mailed inquiries from potential adopters quickly, often within 12 hours, always within 24-48 hours.

7. EASY APPLICATION - We make the adoption process easy by providing an on-line adoption application form. You fill out the application, we review it and if you are approved we contact you immediately.

8. NO RUSHING - We give you the time you need to meet your future companion without rushing the decision. Potential adopters are scheduled for a 30 minute adoption appointment to give you time to meet the animal you are interested in without feeling hurried or rushed
.

9. FRIENDLY/KNOWLEDGABLE VOLUNTEERS - Our volunteers are all professionals in the animal care industry who volunteer their time with our organization to save the lives of animals. Many of our volunteers have veterinary experience, animal training and behavior experience and animal husbandry experience. They can guide you through the adoption proces, answer your questions and offer advice on making your adoption a successful one.

10. SAVE A LIFE - By adopting through CASF you save a life and allow us to continue to save other lives.

ABOUT CASF

California Animal Shelter Friends (CASF) is a 501(c3) non-profit corporation. We are a group of dedicated volunteers including animal trainers, veterinarians, veterinary technicians and other animal lovers. We dedicate our time and energy to saving shelter animals from euthanasia in the state of California.

We are based out of Northern California in the Sacramento area. We work primarily with animal shelters and veterinary hospitals in Central and Northern California. Our dedicated volunteers identify underage (orphaned or very young animals still with their mother in an animal shelter), injured or sick, but otherwise highly adoptable, homeless animals at risk of euthanasia. We rescue them and provide them with medical care, rehabilitation and placement into permanent, loving adoptive homes.

All of the animals who come to our group are provided with comprehensive medical care while with us including: spay/neuter surgery, microchipping (permanent identification), deworming, vaccinations, flea and heartworm control, testing for common diseases (heartworm disease in adult dogs, FeLV/FIV in cats and kittens) and any other medical treatment or wellness care required (including treatment for any illness, surgery to repair any injuries, bloodwork, dental cleanings, etc. as needed).

In the past several years we have rescued dogs, puppies, cats and kittens from the following areas/shelters: Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation, Sacramento City Animal Care, Sacramento SPCA, Colusa County Animal Care, Tracy Animal Shelter, Los Banos Animal Shelter, Redding (Haven Humane Society), Madera Animal Shelter, Merced Animal Shelter, Central California SPCA's Fresno Animal Shelter. Turlock City Animal Shelter, Yolo County Animal Care, Los Coches Animal Shelter, Tehama County Animal Care and Monterrey County Animal Shelter.

We work with a wonderful network of shelters, veterinary hospitals and volunteers to get animals in need into our care. We'd like to thank everyone who helps us to save these deserving animals from euthanasia. Without the dedicated animal shelter workers and volunteers, transport volunteers, foster homes and loving adopters we couldn't do what we do. THANK YOU!

Please consider adopting an animal, sponsoring an animal, making a donation to our organization or volunteering with us so that you can help us to help animals in need.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not work with animals that are currently in private homes. Please do not contact us if you are looking to place your own animal. We work with local shelters to rescue animals directly from the shelters, particularly those at highest risk of immediate euthanasia.
