See our dogs on Saturdays at PETSMART in ALISO VIEJO 12-4. ARIEL RESCUE is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization based in Dana Point. Dogs are saved on their "last day" before being euthanized at municipal shelters, rescued and brought to local Orange County veterinarians. Ariel Rescue seeks to find the best home possible for the rescue dogs. This means we are trying to find a match between a family's lifestyle and the dog's temperament and breed. For example, while we love Siberian Huskies, they need a lot of companionship and if left alone too long, can jump fences or dig. We prefer to adopt them into condominiums where they are walked frequently at dog parks.
We are seeking people who are truly committed to having a dog for life-- not just through puppy hood. Millions of dogs are euthanized because they are adopted as puppies and then people realize how much work is required. Please ask yourself the following questions:
1) Why do I want a dog? If your answer is to get one because your kids really want one and you are hoping they will assume the bulk of the responsibility, please think again. Children may love to play with the dog but after the novelty wears off it becomes your responsibility. Having a dog means a lot more than putting food out and taking them for a walk. Consider fostering a dog first and see how that goes. We would be happy to offer this opportunity to you.
2) Where will the dog spend most of its time? Could leaving the dog in this location result in destruction to your house, yard or neighbors? Dogs want to be with you, it is that simple. When left alone, they get into trouble from sheer loneliness and frustration.
3) How much time do you realistically have to train and spend time with the dog? Be honest-- if you work full time or have a couple of young children, you may not have the time and energy to really dedicate yourself to a dog. Having a dog is like having another child--they need to be trained and told what you expect of them.
