Days and hours the Merced SPCA Adoption Center is open to the public:

****Special Notice: In order to celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, the adoption fees on all dogs have been reduced to half-price. Dogs one age and over are $50 until the end of November and dogs 1 year and younger will be $60 until the end of November. We will require a three day waiting period after viewing an animal before the animal will be adopted out. Please note that the shelter has the right to refuse adoption to potential adopters. Also, we currently do not have any real small puppies available. You may phone the shelter for more info 209-384-7722 or email asb_baker@yahoo.com.
The Merced SPCA is trying to find homes for their older dogs. The shelter is full of nice, gentle, and friendly older companions but they seem to be finding it difficult to compete with the younger dogs and puppies. As time goes on, the same nice dogs are getting fewer and fewer interest. We are offering an incentive to find our older dogs a home so that they can spend the remainder of their years in comfort. If you would like more information on this, and to find out which dogs qualify, please email or phone the shelter for more info.

Who We Are

Adopting a friend

We have dogs/puppies, cats/kittens in need of permanent, loving homes. There is an adoption application to fill out, and upon approval, there will be an adoption contract/agreement to be completed. You must present a valid picture ID in order to adopt. The adoption fees are $120 for puppies, $100 for adult dogs; cats/kittens are $70. This adoption fee includes the spay/neuter and FVRCP>= vaccinations..

Policy for intake of displaced pets

*It is IMPORTANT that you call first 209-384-7722 during the above listed open days/times. PRIOR to bringing any pet in, to check for space availability for any displaced pet to be accepted into the shelter.
*Please make any possible efforts to have the pet spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations prior to trying to adopt them out.
*If we do not have room for the pet, we can give you referrals to other rescues you may contact that may be able to help you as well. The more rescues working on your case, the better, and you MUST be determined and persistent as we have so many cases and so few volunteers, that YOU cannot solely rely on us to rescue/place the pet.
*We have interest cards on file for people seeking specific pets to adopt, and can possibly refer you to them. We can also fill out a card for the pet you have for the file of available displaced pets.
*There is limited space availability for incoming pets to be housed and cared for at our shelter until a foster home(also VERY limited in availability), other non-profit rescue, or permanent home can be found. Pets do better in foster homes, as opposed to a shelter environment, so if at all possible, please try your best to keep the pet as long as you can, or seek the help of responsible family, friends, etc. to foster the pet while we assist you with finding a permanent, loving home for the pet.
