Maltese Rescue California

Escondido, CA

Our Mission

Maltese Rescue California is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers. The dedicated rescue volunteers work tirelessly to ensure unwanted, homeless Maltese are placed in permanent loving homes. Maltese come to our rescue from many sources; animal shelters, animal control agencies, owner surrenders, other rescue groups, veterinarians, death of the primary caretaker, people whose health has changed, and those facing loss of home.

Our rescue volunteers provide adoption services for Maltese acquired from shelters or surrendered by their owners.  Approved foster homes are utilized to care for abused, sickly, and homeless Maltese until such time as an adoptive family is approved for the dogs forever home.

A vital component of Maltese Rescue California is the education of the public regarding breed characteristics, responsible dog ownership, training and humane care of a Maltese.

Or, if you still aren't sure which dog is right for you, contact us. Our volunteer/adoption specialists love playing matchmakers. They’d be delighted to hear from you or you may indicate so on your adoption application.

What happens after I apply to adopt a Maltese Rescue California dog?

Your application is forwarded to our Adoption Coordinators who reviews all your information. You may or may not receive a phone call or an email to answer any questions and to obtain clarification or more information. Information on the dog’s needs and personality may be discussed with you.

A time for you to meet the dog is then arranged. We also encourage potential adopters to visit one of our local monthly adoption events to meet our available dogs and determine if the one they have chosen is the right one for their family.

When these steps are completed, a time is scheduled to visit your home by one of our representatives. The purpose of the visit is to determine if your home and yard provide a “safe” environment for our rescue dog.

**Adoptive families are selected based on the best family for the rescue dog or puppy. When several applicants desire to adopt the same dog, a committee of Maltese Rescue California board members makes the selection.
