The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation is committed to making life more bearable for children, families and pets, in need of a helping paw. With the sale of each full-sized Bearemy’s Kennel Pals® friend -- a collection of Build A Bear Workshop® plush dogs -- one dollar is donated to domestic pet programs including local animal shelters, stray pet rescue and rehabilitation organizations, and pet education programs around the country. These funds are available to qualified non-profit organizations in the United States and Canada. Visit www.buildabear.com for more information.
Saffyre Sanctuary specializes in matching the right horse with the right person. We look for adopters who wish to provide a permanent, lifetime home for a horse and, are accepting of that horse's limitations. Our wish is to ensure that a previously rescued horse never ends up in an unsavory situation again. So many horses need to be rescued, that if we can break the cycle of abandonment, neglect, and abuse by educating people about proper horse care, then together we can give these horses a second chance at a full life.
We prefer that the new owners keep the adopted horse for the remainder of its life but, if circumstances make that impossible, then we will assist the owner in finding a safe and loving home for the horse. (Note: adoption fees will only be returned within the first 10 days).
Our horses are available for adoption to qualified homes only. Unless we already know you, we will ask for references from your farrier, veterinarian, or other qualified persons. We will do a site inspection to see where you will keep the horse. Wonderful people, who are willing to open their heart to a rescue horse, understand that rescue horses are special animals, and that some may have special needs.
Adoption approval will be based on your ability to provide the best home for the horse.
Adoption fees vary per horse and help us continue our operations to rescue, rehabilitate, and find homes for other horses.
Adoption guidelines we provide are set by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) for general equine management and are required of all persons adopting an equine from Saffyre Sanctuary. Click here to view these guidelines AWI/HSUS Guidelines.pdf. While not exhaustive, they offer basic parameters for responsible equine ownership. In addition, any individual keeping equines must comply with all relevant state and local laws.
Saffyre Sanctuary asks that you promise to love, spoil, care for, protect, cherish, and enjoy your rescued horse!
Saffyre Sanctuary, Inc. was incorporated in June 2009 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, and has been certified by the IRS as a tax-exempt charity. All donations made to Saffyre Sanctuary are fully tax deductible as allowed by law.
Saffyre Sanctuary is a rescue and rehabilitation program that cares for horses that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected. We also give horses an opportunity for a second career or a well deserved retirement, due to soundness issues, age, or owner hardships.
Saffyre Sanctuary assists homeless horses in finding their forever person. Through our networks, we place them in new careers in many disciplines. If they are unable to perform in a new career, we try to find loving homes where they can retire in peace and comfort or serve as companion equines.
Although Saffyre Sanctuary is an all-breed rescue, we have a special place in our hearts to the plight and distinctive needs of the Arabian breed. We are one of very few rescue organizations that works with Arabians, and maintains a following of Arabian enthusiasts who are familiar with their unique disposition. If you are looking to add an Arabian to your home, please consider adopting or fostering one of our loving horses.
We have a unique approach of equine care that specializes in holistic nutrition, holistic rehabilitation, environmentally friendly equine housing, and green facility management.
Educational programs are provided free to children and the community, which emphasize the importance of proper equine care, ownership responsibility, and the consequences of neglect. Through the interaction with our horses, participants also learn compassion, forgiveness, and trust.
One of the visions for our rescue is the creation of an entirely "green" dream facility. While we have yet to decide on a permanent location, Blackburn Architects has generously donated the plans for our barn. Our vision includes a thirty stall barn on a minimum of ten acres, which is run entirely on solar and wind power. Water purification, reclamation, and composting systems will also be implemented. We hope to be a model for other facilities that are concerned about their impact on the environment.
Until our dream becomes reality, Summer Hawk Ranch, located in Lake View Terrace, California, has allowed us to use a portion of their facility to help some horses in need. This alliance allows us to carry out our mission, and ensures that the horses in our care benefit from the combined environment of both programs.
