The Adoption Process

The adoption process starts with the interested person visiting the kitty at our adoption site (Pet Supply on Brookhurst and Hamelton) They then must fill out an adoption application and be interviewed by a Furry Critter volunteer. After approval a donation or adoption fee is then paid directly to our group. The adoption donation goes directly back into trapping and rescuing feral cats and kittens for any of the following necessities: Vaccines, Felv/fiv testing, food, housing, bedding, cat litter, medical services such as spays and neuters, injury, emergency surgery and illness.

Ferals need Help too!

The definition of a feral cat is a cat that has had little to no direct contact with humans. They are frightened panicked creatures that are terrified of people. Sometimes they are scared because of abuse or harassment they have been exposed to at the hands of mean spirited people. For what ever reason this does not make them bad. It just takes a lot of patience, kindness, understanding and determination to convince them that people are ok. This is what Furry Critters does, we work with ferals. The majority of adults will never be placeable, but the kittens, when worked with and shown how wonderful it is to be held and loved make wonderful pets. Our kittens are loving, cuddly, purr muffins that need a loving home. Please give them a chance. Come in to Passionate Pet and see for yourself how awsome they are. Adoptions are every Friday 2 to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 1 to 5pm. Individual appointments available.

A little bit about Black Cats!  Rescue Groups and shelters alike have some of the most beautiful, hearty, and exceptionally good natured cats and kittens who are sadly getting passed by for more colorful kitties.  Black cats are being euthanized in shelters more than any other.  Rescue groups find them the most difficult to place into safe and loving homes.  This is sad and heartbreaking for black cats who are extremely intelligent, affectionate and lack many of the health problems associated with other breeds.  Some people are superstitious, black cats are bad luck, others say they are fearful of black on carpeting or furniture.  As a result they get left behind.  Call people or email me. talk to people who have black cats as pets or who have adopted black cats and hear our testimonies on how wonderful they really are.  I can assure you, you will have a "change of heart"  Please consider adopting one of these wonderful appreciative bundles of fun, personality, love and joy.

Who We Are and What We Do

Our adoption animals are abandoned feral cat and kitten rescues (mostly). We trap, spay or neuter and get medical attention when needed for adult ferals, take them back to where they were originally trapped or find a safe more sutible place for their release. Kittens are quarentined for no less than 14 days before they are adopted out to the public to help aviod adopting out sick animals. They are worked with and handled turning them into wonderful, loving and cuddly pets. All pets are given a basic spay or neuter, their first series of vaccines, dewormed, have flea control applied (advantage), are treated for earmites or mange (just in case) and are Felv/Fiv tested as part of the adoption fee. One free exam has been donated by Alton Animal Hospital and is included in the adoption of your new pet. Furry Critter volunteers donate their time and energy in the hopes of "Saving a Life" of an abandoned, homeless animal, finding placement through adoption for pets desperately in need of a loving home.
