Our Featured Pet...

Our featured parrot is Sam, a very large milligold macaw cross. (Military/Blue and Gold macaw.) He was given to us from a situation where noise was frowned upon and dogs were in charge. Kids were told to kick the cage when he squawked, and dogs were encouraged to protest as well, so as a result Sam will not be adopted out to a place with kids or dogs since he has been taught to to become cage territorial/aggressive with these specific stimuli. He is beautiful, very sweet and once away from his cages, talks a lot of words plus jibberish cute phrases. Please come meet Sam at our So Cal sanctuary, those of you who know macaw dispositions and care. Go to his picture and bio on this site.

News

Another reminder to get rid of all of your non stick products from the home before you bring in a bird. We have just lost one of our beloved caiques at an adopter's home from an oven with residue from a flexable, non stick oven liner that was peeled off before the bird went home to them. On necropsy there was also evidence of carpet and upholstrey freshener and carpet and upholstrey cleaner in her tissues. Please update yourselves and clear out the common toxins in and around your homes. Rest in peace, sweet Lucy.

Who We Are

The Lily Sanctuary is a non profit 501(c)(3) parrot rescue whose sole purpose is to provide quality care and love for homeless and "special needs" parrots. Because exotic parrots have become easily obtainable, far too many are purchased as "impulse buys." Not only are parrots beautiful and fun, many prospective owners don't realize they are extremely sensitive, intelligent, social creatures, and they are high maintenance with a life expectancy of 20-80 years, depending on the species. The commitment is enormous, and a few years down the road more and more people are forced to give up their companion birds--some by choice, some not. Even under the best of circumstances, it is a heartbreaking decision that can cause a beloved avian companion to face a bleak and terrifying future. Selling them is an option, one we think should be a last resort. Education and behavior consultation are important aspects of our adoption program as well, and placing with and adopting from a qualified, reputable rescue/sanctuary whose only interest is the parrot's welfare and future is the humane choice. That's what The Lily Sanctuary is all about.

Adopting a friend

To potentially adopt a parrot from The Lily Sanctuary, one must reside within a 60 mile radius of Orange County, California. This is due to the fact to adopter must visit the parrot at the sanctuary at least 3 times to bond, and home checks must be done before any bird is to leave the sanctuary for it's new home. Please go to our web site, read the adoption requirements, and if you feel you qualify, fill out the adoption application as thoroughly as possible, and we will contact you as soon as we have an open appointment for you to visit us.

Come Visit Us!

This is a closed sanctuary for the health and safety of our residents, and appointments will be open only to potential adopters after the prescreening adoption application has been approved by our adoption committee.
