Our Featured Pet... Thomas is our longest term resident and really would like a home of his own. Can you help? Thomas is a handsome 88 lb, spirited, 4 1/2 year old, red fawn male. He is a special needs greyhound and would fare best in a home with adults and no children or other dogs. Thomas often limps on his right rear leg due to a probable gentic condition which affected a leg tendon. He, however, loves going on walks and when happy does energetic spins and circles. He is sweet and soulful and can also be quite calm. He really needs his forever home.

OPG Mission Operation Greyhound is a not-for-profit 100% volunteer organization dedicated to the placement of retired racing greyhounds in loving homes. We are completely dependent on the support of our community for volunteers, and on donations from generous souls which help us to save precious greyhound lives.

However, this is a great way to share in some of the joys of greyhound ownership even if you can't have pets, have too many pets, or if you would like to volunteer but don't have the time!

Who We Are

The organization has adopted out over 2,100 greyhounds in the past 15 years. It has facilities for 21 greyhounds and has a constant waiting list for incoming greyhounds. We estimate that currently 20,000 greyhounds are rescued annually from the racing industry, with an estimated 15,000 killed in the United States. Placing greyhounds in qualified, loving and responsible homes is the primary mission of Operation Greyhound.

Adopting a friend

Our adoption process is for the benefit of both the dogs and potential greyhound families. We qualify families based on their needs and attempt to match those to the needs of our dogs. You can download an Adoption Application in PDF format at our site: http:///www.operationgreyhound.com. Completing it is the first step in the adoption process. Once the application is received, a volunteer will call you to set up a home visit. Our volunteer can help you see your home through a greyhound's eyes. Remember, your greyhound may have never seen things like stairs and sliding glass doors. Once these criteria are met, you are ready to pick out your greyhound. Your volunteer will give you directions to and visiting hours for our rescue. The volunteers at our rescue are very knowlegeable about each dog and eager to help you choose your new greyhound friend. Your greyhound will come to you having been given a dental exam and cleaning, licensed, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, wormed, blood tested for tick-diseases, groomed and with a colar. Our adoption fee which helps cover the cost of these services and is currently $210.
