News;

4/2010 The Baby Kittens will soon be arriving into our Foster Care Program. The cost of raising abandoned kittens is quite high, donations are always welcomed and can be sent to our mailing address at 909 PMB #343 Marina Village Parkway, Alameda, CA 94501, THANK YOU!

Adopters: We love to hear from you and get stories and pictures if possible. It's always heart warming to hear how our "kids" have become a part of your family. Even if it has been a few years- we always love hearing how every one is doing. Many of our rescues came to us at just a few hours or days old. So it is good to know how they are as they get older.

Volunteering: Because SCCR is an all volunteer group, there is a great need for volunteers. There are many ways you can help. We can always use an extra hand at our mobile adoption site. We would love to have help with fundraising. Or perhaps you would like to be a foster home, for our ability to rescue depends completely on foster homes. And any other way you might help with our mission will be greatly appreciated! If you want to volunteer, please call, email, or visit our mobile adoption site for more information.

Donations: As always - donations are greatly appreciated and needed! It is the fuel that keep the organization going. And they are Tax-Deductible! Donations can be sent to our mailing address or brought to our mobile adoption site.

Wish List: KMR (baby kitten formula), pure cotton balls/pads, Science Diet or Iams (or similar brand) (Dry or Canned - Kitten or Adult), all brands will be appreciated!. Donated items can be brought to our mobile adoption site.

Who We Are

SCCR is an all volunteer non-profit charitable organization with 501(c)(3) status. We were incorporated on September 25, 1998.

Our mission is to reduce the suffering or unnecessary euthanasia of cats and kittens that are feral, abandoned or abused. We rescue, treat and rehabilitate those felines through placement in volunteer foster homes for the purpose of adoption into permanent homes that are loving and responsible. Our major focus is on the youngest and most fragile of the cat population - the kittens!

Due to our vast neo-natal kitten experience and knowledge, we have a very high success rate with raising very young kittens. We are proud of our accomplishments over the past years and we are dedicated to our mission!

We are a team of volunteers who open our homes and hearts to these rescues. By offering them a loving foster home without time limits, they can be cared for and socialized, giving these rescues a realistic chance to become loving pets.

Adopting A Pet Friend

When adopting a pet from SCCR, you are making a commitment to keep your pet indoors and provide love, care and medical treatment for the life of your pet, which can be up to 20 years or more. Adopting a pet is a very serious decision, but a rewarding one!

We are a small group and we know each of our cats and kittens personally. Therefore we make every effort to provide the best possible match when adopting these pets into a new family. Each prospective adopter is interviewed carefully, and their pet selection is reviewed to see if the pet will fit into the new home. After the adoption is complete, there are follow-up calls and a lot of support is given to ensure the adoption is a success. If your new pet is not adapting to your existing family/pets, or if circumstances change, we request that your pet is returned to us.

In the first part of the adoption process we will ask you some brief questions such as; are you over 18, do you live in a home that allows pets, do you have childern, have you had pets in the past or do you currently have other pets, if so, what type/age and are they kept indoors? Then you fill out an adoption application. After the initial interview and selection of your new pet, the adoption will be finalized with an adoption contract. You will be given an adoption packet that will include the following items; a copy of the contract, health history, and a Petco coupon book.

The donation fee is is $75.00 each, two or more pets can be adopted at a reduced amount. We refer to the adoption fee as a donation fee because it isTax-Deductible. The donations are used to provide care for the fostered cats and kittens.

Prior to adoption, all of the cats or kittens have been tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), given two FVRCP vaccinations, dewormed if required, flea treatment and spayed or neutered. Many of our fosters have also received additional vet care as needed, such as surgery for injuries, infections or congenital problems, treatment for ear or eye ailments, as well as treatment for upper respiratory infections and viruses.
