Who We Are

ALPHA Canine Sanctuary is a no-kill haven for homeless dogs. The 20 acre ranch, which opened in 1995, is nestled in the foothills above Bakersfield.

Founders, Marilyn and Glen Stewart, live on site. They and several employees provide full-time care for the dogs. ALPHA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and is supported entirely by donations from animal lovers. ALPHA's basic programs are:
— Rescue
— Adoptions
— Care for life

ALPHA's auxiliary programs include:
— ALIVE spay/neuter assistance
— Free ID tags
— Free transportation for citizen's pets to the vet or groomer
— More programs are in development

Summer schedule: Adoptions only at the sanctuary
Monday - Saturday, 10:00 - 4:00
Rain cancels adoptions
Our adoption fee is $95, and dogs will have all their shots including rabies, microchipped, spayed/neutered, and have a clean bill of health.

DIRECTIONS TO THE SANCTUARY:
From hwy 99, north on Airport Drive. Cross
James Road. (Do not turn) From James
Road, go 4.8 miles. Turn right into a
driveway with eight mailboxes. In 20 feet,
turn left. Go straight at the fork. Proceed
to the sanctuary.
