Mission Statement

Founded on November 5, 2003 by Monica Thompson, D.V.M, the Feline Well-Care Clinic started as a veterinary hospital that occasionally rescued cats. As time went on Dr. Thompson discovered that her passion was rescuing cats from Bay Area shelters who would otherwise be put to sleep.

Dr. Thompson established the Nine Lives Foundation in December of 2004, which is a community-based not-for-profit, 501(c) (3), no-kill organization dedicated to the welfare of all cats and kittens. Its goal is to provide rescue, boarding, and adoption services for cats only. The Nine Lives Foundation is a no-kill facility that welcomes cats and kittens from bay area streets and shelters that would otherwise be put to sleep. The overriding goal of the Nine Lives Foundation is to place the animals who come to us in humane, responsible and loving homes.

**Kittens under 16 weeks must be adopted out in pairs.

What our adoption includes:
When you choose to adopt one of our Nine Lives Foundation, cats or kittens, the adoption donation you pay ensures that, like all of our cats, your future cat or kittens will already have been:
  • Spayed or neutered
  • Tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia)
  • Tested for FIV (Feline AIDS)
  • Given their age appropriate FVRCP and Rabies vaccinations. Depending on the cat's age and how long we have had it, additional vaccinations are sometimes provided by us; if not, they are the responsibility of the adopter.
  • Treated with Frontline or Revolution for fleas
  • Treated for worms (tape and roundworm)
  • Given a mani/pedi nail treatment
  • Given a microchip
Each kitty also comes with a 20% off coupon for Pet Food Express. Combined, these services would ordinarily cost well over $300, so you're saving a whole lot of that green stuff that's in such short supply this time of the year. Of course, we will always welcome a larger donation, since many times we must provide additional medical care such as surgery for injuries or congenital problems, x-rays, blood panels, fecal tests, treatment for ear, eye, upper respiratory infections, ring worm and viruses. We also supply treatment for anything your new kitty may have gotten while with us that doesn't show up until you take your kitty home.
