Finnegan is an 8 pound, 2 year old, Pomeranian/long hair chihuahua mix. He is golden in color, eyes and in personality! What a dear, sweet little guy! He is loving, energetic and happy. He gets along with some dogs and is wonderful with people. However, some of the dogs don't like him. It is unknown how he would be with cats. He plays with some dogs but is food agressive so he will have to eat separately if he is placed with another dog. He might do best in a home where he is the only dog. He was given up by a family who could no longer care for him. We suggest a home with children over the age of 10 for this dog. This dog cannot be adopted out of state. Please see our home page for a list of our Saturday adoption sites. Every potential adopter is required to fill out an adoption application and the dog is placed in the home that would be most suitable for the dog. We do not place our dogs in homes with unfenced swimming pools. Generally we don't release the dogs at the adoption site that day except on occasion to former adopters. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please call Penny Adams at 619-466-0426.
Who We Are
The FCIA is a small, nonprofit (501C3), all volunteer organization that takes in small "adoptable" dogs that would otherwise be euthanized. Normally, they are under 20 lbs. Often they have medical problems, most of which can be reversed by our veterinarians. Our adoption fees range from $150 to $250, which covers spay or neutering, vaccines, worming, and some part of any medical expenses; not all are licensed and some are microchipped. We do not have a shelter and the dogs are in foster homes; they are shown every Saturday from 10:30-1:30 at different pet store locations in San Diego.
If you would like to make a donation, please mail donations to the address at the bottom of the page or click on the donate button to use Paypal.

Come Visit Us!
As we don't have a shelter - we will be posting where we will be showing the dogs from week to week.
Please note that adoptions require applications be processed and approved by the board and the dogs are not available the same day the application is submitted.

News
THANK YOU to all who participated in the garage sale or stopped by to donate to us. It was a HUGE success! A special thank you to the wonderful family who held this garage sale for us. All the money raised will go directly towards rescuing more pets or helping with vet care expenses.
For all of you out there who have adopted from us - THANK YOU! We know it is not easy going through our adoption process and appreciate you sticking with us.
With Your Help
With the donations we have received, in 2011 we were able to:
1. Save about 300 shelter and shelter-related animals each year.
2. Medically treat 35 of our rescued dogs at the cost, after veterinary discounts, of up to $500 each; another 11 at $1,000 to $1,600 each.
3. Financially aid 161 families in claiming their impounded dogs (451 in the previous 13 years). Animal Control now offeers an excellent low impound fee contingent upon neutering that most people can afford.
4. Help financially 47 shelter animals with surgeries and/or medical treatment to facilitate their being adopted by their respective rescue groups.
5. Financially aid 23 families claim their impounded dogs from the shelter (123 previous six years). Animal Control offers an excellent low impound fee contingent on neutering.
6. Pay 24 dog and cat shelter adoption fees for their respective rescue groups.
7. Financially help 75 families with veterinary care for their ill or injured pets to prevent being impounded by Animal Control.
Adopting a Friend
They come with a lifetime guarantee, if at any time, for any reason, an adoption does not work out, you have signed a contract requiring you to return the dog to the Foundation. Under no circumstances should the adopted dog be placed with a friend, relative, co-worker, humane society, animal control/pound or any other individual or organization, we appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Our goal however, is to find loving, lifetime homes.
Volunteering and Donations
As our world becomes more violent and less humane, OUR JOB GETS TOUGHER AND MORE COSTLY. It takes longer these days to find adoptive parents who are willing to work with a neglected or abused dog, and who are willing to COMMIT FOR THE DOGS LIFE. WHAT A REWARD WHEN WE FIND THESE PEOPLE!!! We always can use VOLUNTEERS and donations! We will be bringing donated items to the Saturday adoption sites to sell. Donations and adoption fees are used to get dogs from the shelters, pay for vet bills and medications. Foster homes are needed to give a dog hope of a better future. If you would like to become a foster home, you will be asked to care for a dog, taking it to the adoption center each weekend. We ask that you commit to fostering the animal until the pet has been adopted to prevent the dog from being passed around.
Special Thanks
The FCIA would also like to express gratitude to the PETCO Stores, PetsMart, Unleashed by Petco and Pet Nutrition Center for continuing to hold adoption events at their stores. Also, a special thank you to PETCO for their generous donation through their "Spring A Pet" and "Tree of Hope" campaigns and to PETSMART Charities. Thanks to Nature's Select for their donation of dog food. We would also like to acknowledge Ark Antiques, a charity for animals in La Jolla. They are a non-profit organization where all proceeds go to local animal charities and humane causes.
