Penny is a 12 pound fox terrier mix. She is about 7 years old. Penny was spoiled by her senior citizen daddy for 6 1/2 years before he passed from cancer leaving Penny slightly anxious and insecure. She loves to play fetch so much that she will bring you a rock to throw! Penny is learning to walk on a leash, doesn't mind cats, and romps with dogs her size. She will beg for treats and do almost anything for food! She is so cute when she stands on her rear legs, waving her front paws begging for a treat! She is house broken but should be crated at night with her favorite blanket. We suggest a home with children over the age of 10 for this dog. Please contact the foster parents at 760-994-6136 for more information on this dog. For an application to adopt this dog please email FCIAadoptions@aol.com and one will be emailed to you.
Who We Are
The FCIA is a small, nonprofit (501C3), all volunteer organization that takes in small "adoptable" dogs that would otherwise be euthanized. Normally, they are under 20 lbs. Often they have medical problems, most of which can be reversed by our veterinarians. Our adoption fees range from $150 to $250, which covers spay or neutering, vaccines, worming, and some part of any medical expenses; not all are licensed and some are microchipped. We do not have a shelter and the dogs are in foster homes.
If you would like to make a donation, please mail donations to the address at the bottom of the page or click on the donate button to use Paypal.

News
FCIA was awarded $1,000 for being in the top 100 rescue groups out of 7500 from Petco.
For all of you out there who have adopted from us - THANK YOU! We know it is not easy going through our adoption process and appreciate you sticking with us.
With Your Help
With the donations we have received, in 2011 we were able to:
1. Save about 300 shelter and shelter-related animals each year.
2. Medically treat 35 of our rescued dogs at the cost, after veterinary discounts, of up to $500 each; another 11 at $1,000 to $1,600 each.
3. Financially aid 161 families in claiming their impounded dogs (451 in the previous 13 years). Animal Control now offers an excellent low impound fee contingent upon neutering that most people can afford.
4. Help financially 47 shelter animals with surgeries and/or medical treatment to facilitate their being adopted by their respective rescue groups.
5. Pay 24 dog and cat shelter adoption fees for their respective rescue groups.
6. Financially help 75 families with veterinary care for their ill or injured pets to prevent being impounded by Animal Control.
Adopting a Friend
Our dogs come with a lifetime guarantee. If at any time, for any reason, an adoption does not work out, you have signed a contract requiring you to return the dog to the Foundation. Under no circumstances should the adopted dog be placed with a friend, relative, co-worker, humane society, animal control/pound or any other individual or organization. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Our goal, however, is to find loving, lifetime homes.
Volunteering and Donations
As our world becomes more violent and less humane, OUR JOB GETS TOUGHER AND MORE COSTLY. It takes longer these days to find adoptive parents who are willing to work with a neglected or abused dog, and who are willing to COMMIT FOR THE DOGS LIFE. WHAT A REWARD WHEN WE FIND THESE PEOPLE!!! We always can use VOLUNTEERS and donations! Foster homes are needed to give a dog hope of a better future. If you would like to become a foster home, you will be asked to care for a dog. We ask that you commit to fostering the animal until the pet has been adopted to prevent the dog from being passed around.
Special Thanks
The FCIA would also like to express gratitude to the PETCO Stores, PetsMart, Unleashed by Petco and Pet Nutrition Center for continuing to hold adoption events at their stores. Also, a special thank you to PETCO for their generous donation through their "Spring A Pet" and "Tree of Hope" campaigns and to PETSMART Charities. Thanks to Nature's Select for their donation of dog food. We would also like to acknowledge Ark Antiques, a charity for animals in La Jolla. They are a non-profit organization where all proceeds go to local animal charities and humane causes.
