Who We Are
The City of Coquitlam Animal shelter is a municipally run no-kill for adoptable animals shelter. All the animals that are at the shelter have been stray and are now looking for their new forever homes. All animals that arrive at the shelter are held for 7 days to help owners find their lost pets. The staff at the shelter strives to reunite lost animals with their owners, and works to find new homes for the animals that are not claimed.
Volunteers
The shelter has a very successful volunteer program. Minimum age for walking dogs is 18. Youth volunteers 16 and older can volunteer with cats and rabbits without an adult volunteer supervisor, however, anyone 15 and younger can only accompany an adult volunteer and cannot volunteer alone. We hold 2 hour orientation sessions once a month, followed by a mandatory Shelter Tour on the following week. The Animal Shelter is always accepting new volunteers. All volunteering is self-directed and volunteers must be comfortable to perform activities without supervision and direction. We recommend all those interested to first come to the shelter, tour our facilities, and speak with our Volunteer Support Technician - Dan Todd at 604-927-7372, before deciding if volunteering at the Shelter is right for you. If you do decide to sign-up, go to http://www.coquitlam.ca/volunteer and click on the V2 logo.
Adopting a Friend
All cats and dogs are spayed/neutered before adoption. Animals under 6 months of age are adopted out with a $50 certificate towards the spay/neuter. Adoptors are also required to sign a contract stating they will have the animal spayed/neutered at 6 months of age.
