WHO ARE WE?
Ocean Dog Rescue is a non for profit organization. We are a group of dedicated volunteers who love animals and have joined together to help rescue, provide medical care, rehabilitate and re-home abused, abandoned, homeless animals such like stray dogs from Taiwan and look for their forever home in Vancouver BC Canada which we call
Overseas Cross-Ocean Adoption Program
That's the reason why where our organization's name Ocean Dog Rescue came from.
we really need your help to offer your kindly hands to Taiwanese dogs, even there is only a few chances for our rescue dogs, we will be very much appreciated.
Many times we rescue animals (primarily dogs) that have found themselves unwanted or were having physically abused by human (dog abuse is widespread in this country), stray/live on the street facing very dangerous and difficult life everyday or lost in over-crowded shelters and facing death row.
All animals that come through Ocean Dog Rescue are examined by our veterinarians prior to placing them in temporary foster homes in Taiwan or in Vancouver (only few). Placing our animals in temporary foster care, allows Ocean Dog Rescue time to assess each animal's individuals needs. It also allows the animal time to adapt to his/her new environment and receive any attention he/she requires such as training and socializing. With this, Ocean Dog Rescue is more able to re-home the animal ensuring the best match for both the animal and his/her human companion.
All of our rescued dogs had been altered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, a micro-chipped, blood test, a collar with a rescue ID tag (must be on forever) and all the paperwork as well as medical certificate will go with the dog. We always make sure our dogs are health enough and only send dogs that are in very good health condition for long flight.
We look for homes where our dogs will become family members, companions. All prospective adopters must commit to the mental and physical well being of their new family member, by providing food, water, appropriate time, training, shelter, grooming, exercise, veterinary care as needed and of course LOVE.
Ocean Dog Rescue is run 100% by volunteers. We do not have a shelter facility to visit. All our rescues are immediately placed into loving foster homes in Taiwan or Vancouver and cared for in the home until suitable families/companions are found.
Our adoption program also help local dog rescue.
Please DO NOT BUY a dog from a pet store or animal broker as the money you pay SUPPORTS puppy mills. The cute little puppies being sold at pet stores are most likely mill dogs. Don't turn a blind eye while homeless pets die! ADOPT FROM A SHELTER OR RESCUE GROUP near you!

According to the
World Society for
the Protection of Animals, Taiwan is
among the worst places in the world for animals.
There are at least 2 million stray dogs in
Taiwan , many of them 2nd or 3rd generation
strays. There are virtually no humane societies,
shelters, or even laws prohibiting cruelty
towards animals. Government-run dog pounds don't
offer humane euthanization--instead, dogs are
electrocuted, drowned, burned, or left to starve
to death. Certainly very little if anything is
done to curb the reproduction cycle. Strays and
cruelty towards dogs are such a fact of life
there that most people turn a blind eye.
Horrible abuse cases such as that involving
(WARNING -Graphic:
) "Thin-Necked Blackie"happen more
Needless to say, the chances of survival let alone a life of happiness for a homeless dog in Taiwan is almost nil. Generally, dogs are not valued as companions and family members there as they are here. |
ADOPTING A FRIEND
Our adoption fee is between $450.00 and $600.00 (cash or credit care by Paypal only). This fee includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, Vet (some of the dogs need special treatment or surgery) cage, transportation and air ticket (most of our rescue dogs are from Taiwan)
Adoption fees also help to offset the expenses incurred in rescue. All dogs must be inside pets. No yard dogs. No working dogs. If you cherish your pets and believe that pets should be part of the family please take a look at our available dogs. Because most of the dogs are in Taiwan or on residential property, we adopt by appointment only.
In order to adopt a pet from Ocean Dog Rescue you must first fill out an adoption application and signed the Preliminary Adoption Agreement. This is to let us know all about you and your pets that you may already have. By doing so, we can make sure that the right pet is placed into your family. After an application and Preliminary Adoption Agreement has been filled out/initialed and home check is scheduled and you have selected your pet, you will be asked to sign an Adoption Contract after all these process completely. This contract states that you are willing to care for your new pet and abide by the animal laws. You will also be asked to pay a non-refundable adoption fee at this time. If the adoptee is in Vancouver, we will place your adoptee into your home right the way. But if the dog is in Taiwan, then we will arrange meet up at the Vancouver international Airport to pick up your adoptee flight from Taiwan by either China or Eva Airline (usually arrived at 7pm~8pm daily). All this may sound like a lot but it is all a part of the wonderful relationship you will build with your new pet.
Please note
We adopted out the dog to whoever
(qualified applicant) gets back to us and willing to sign the Adoption Contract
first, because sometimes we might have few applicants under processing for a
same dog.
We really have no idea the qualified applicant willing to sign the Adoption
Contract and have the adoption fee paid or not, so we always adopted the dog to the
qualified applicant who gets back to us first. Please understand we really
can't hold the dog for whoever only response by email because sometimes those
qualified applicants just disappear forever or might change their mind at the
end and never get back to us.
Please considering carefully again before this overseas adoption.
1. Please fill out an Adoption Application Form along with Preliminary Adoption agreement is initialed and email back to Ocean Dog Rescue.
2. Please allow up to a week for your application to be reviewed. Our volunteers will then might contact your references and your vet.
3. A phone interview or email will be arranged during which any questions you might have will be answered. NOTE: Ocean Dog Rescue reserves the RIGHT to refuse any applicant for any reason without further notification.
4. A home check is scheduled at your convenience so that we can be sure that your home is dog/cat friendly.
5. A Play Date is set for you to come out and meet the dog that you are interested in, unless a dog is being transported to the Bay Area to go directly to your home.
6. After Adoption Contract signed along with Adoption fee paid then we can start making arrangements to have your adoptee's flight confirmed. Payment of Adoption Fee in full is required before your adoptee's flight can be confirmed.
7(a).Your dog/adoptee is placed in your home and loving care.
7(b). will meet up at the Vancouver International Airport YVR with our volunteer to pick up your adoptee flight from Taiwan.
8. Adoption is finalized with happily ever after
9. Please keep in touch with Ocean Dog Rescue to have dog's updated info once a while for reference in ever coming future or have updated photos and greeting cards (Christmas greeting message) for their fostered parents or rescuer to let them know the dog is doing fine. Cooperate with annual home visit.
Thank you for your interest in providing a loving home for a rescued dog.
Although, our desire is to place as many dogs as possible, all homes must be qualified to take care of the dogs they adopt. For this reason, all homes are screened. There are a few guidelines that almost all rescue groups go by to determine if an individual is a good candidate for adoption. By coming to a dog rescue site you have already passed the first qualification! You CARE about saving a dog that needs you! But, caring isn't enough. You must have a home that is dog friendly. Ask yourself the following: Is there anything in my home that could harm a dog? Exposed electrical cords? Poisonous houseplants? Household chemicals on open low shelves? Other pets that are aggressive? Young children that don't understand to be gentle? Do you have a securely fenced yard? If not, are you willing to walk the dog on a leash several times every day? You might also check your home to see if a dog can hurt your home! All dogs occasionally have accidents even well trained dogs. Can you deal with this? Many dogs (especially younger dogs) chew belongings, or scratch at couches. Most dogs shed leaving dog hair on your furniture & carpets & clothes....are you ok with this? All dogs bark, whine & howl on occasion. Can you deal with this? Can your neighbors? And lastly, you must have the TIME for a dog! Dogs are like perpetual children. They need Love, Discipline, Exercise, Training, Veterinary Care and more.
