Our small rescue carries on since it's beginning in January 03.
We continue to net work with other rescues and shelters which enable us to keep current on the dogs (mostly small dogs) that need help to find a new home. We have happily been able to place 350 dogs since that beginning.
Who We Are
Second Chances is a not-for-profit animal rescue organization based in Parksville, B. C. We are not a shelter but rather an adoption service that provides a link between good people who are prepared to adopt a new pet and the pets that are deserving of a safe and caring forever home.
We work with shelters, rescues and personal surrenders.
We are not breed specific. Living in a retirement community, most of our registrations are for smaller size dogs.
Adopting a friend
Our adoption process includes an application, phone interview and home visit by a Second Chances volunteer. Often we receive a large number of applications for a certain dog. We try our best to contact each applicant but being a 'one-woman show' it's not always possible. We do care about each applicant but the decision as to where to place the dog has to be in that dog's best interest.
Factors such as location, age, size etc. are all considered in choosing the adopter.
Come Visit Us!
We do not have a shelter where people can visit the dogs. We rely heavily on foster homes where each dog can be assessed both medically and in terms of behaviour in order to make the best match possible.
