Our Policy

Stray animals are held for a total of 72 HOURS (3 WORKING DAYS) from the day they arrive for the owners to claim them. After this period, they are either placed up for adoption, or humanely euthanized.

All animals are held for adoption a total of 3 days from the day they become available. Although all are guaranteed their first three days, aggressive and sick animals may be held less at the veterinarian's discretion. After the 3 days (or at the veterinarians discretion), the animals will be humanely euthanized. If you see an animal that you are interested in PLEASE do not hesitate to ask for more information.

Pitbull's, ferrets (and other animals at the veterinarian's discretion) will be available for adoption to off-post residents ONLY due to certain restrictions.

All animals are adopted out on an "as is" basis, there are no guarantees as to breed, age, temperament, health, behavior/training, etc.. There will be NO REFUNDS. For more information, ask to see a copy of our Adoption Contract. Additionally, if the animal does not work out, there will be a fee to place it back up for adoption and it can only be placed back up at the Fort Huachuca VTF if you live on Fort Huachuca.

Who We Are

Fort Huachuca is a military installation outside of Sierra Vista, AZ. We are home to many soldiers and their families and are a proud and strong community. We are a full service Veterinary Clinic open to Active Duty and Retired Military Members of all Branches. We see many stray animals every year and adopt a great number of them to families. Unfortunately, we are a kill shelter and sadly must euthanize many animals. The good news is that we are able to adopt to ANYONE, military or civilian. To find out more about our adoption program and what animals we have to adopt, check back here regularly or call us at (520)533-2767.

Adopting a friend

All of our critters are tested for heartworms(dogs) or the feline leukemia virus(cats). They leave the shelter with all vaccines, deworming, and microchipping upon adoption. The animals are put on a list to be spayed or neutered upon appointment availability or can be taken to another vet at the new owners expense. All cats and male dogs are $42.00 to adopt. Female dogs are $52.00. Puppies and kittens, upon availability, cost more due to the series of vaccinations required. If you're coming from a good distance, there is a chance that the animal you select won't be neutered since we're so backed up. If the adoption is long-distance, we are unable to provide transportation for the animals so previous arrangements must be made and the veterinary clinic informed.

Come Visit Us!

Our hours of operation are M-F 0800-1200 and 1300-1600 hrs (8-12 and 1-4). It is best to call before you come, but walkins are always welcome! If you are civilian and want to view our critters, you should stop at the Main Gate and register for a temporary vehicle pass so you are allowed on post. This is not said to make anyone hesitant about coming onto a military installation, but is now a precaution for everyone's safety. Our Pups and Cats can't wait to meet you! If you need directions, we would be happy to give them to you, just give us a call!
