Caretaking for a homeless dog can be extremely rewarding and fun. The feeling of knowing that you have saved a life and helped bring back the spirit of an animal is quite a wonderful feeling.
You might be thinking, "I could never do that, I would want to keep every one of them." Many caretakers do think this in the beginning. Adoption day is very hard, but all caretakers will tell you that if you do not let them go, where will the next homeless dog go? It gets easier as you see the many wonderful people that decide to open up their hearts and homes to a rescue dog.

Who We Are
We are a private, volunteer, no profit (501c3) organization. We are dedicated to the rescue of unwanted, neglected, and abandoned pets. We specialize in Brachycephalic or "smashed-faced" breeds (boxers, bulldogs, etc) but for the perfect home we will help you find the perfect pet, or point you to a rescue who can. We provide food, shelter, medical attention, and TLC during our rescues wait for the "RIGHT" forever home. Our dogs are cared for in foster homes during this wait, we do not have a shelter or facility for you to visit. We try to have them in a foster home environment for at least 2 weeks. They are temperament tested to the best of our ability to ensure a perfect match into their new home. Our number one concern is for the safety of the adoptive family and the happiness of the pet. We strive for a FOREVER placement - not all dogs are perfect for all families.
We can't save every dog but we can make a difference...one dog at a time!
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting one of our pets, please see our website at www.almosthomeboxers.org or you can contact us at: almosthomeaz@gmail.com. We prefer e-mail to cut down on cell phone charges. Once an application is submitted, it is reviewed, references are checked, and a home visit is done. If approved, we will contact you about the dog you are interested in. We want to place these dogs in the most appropriate homes available, so it may take some time to find that perfect dog for you, please be patient.
Come Visit Us!
All of our dogs are in foster homes throughout the valley - we do not have a shelter that you can visit. Once the paper work process is complete and the home visit done, we will contact you to set up a satisfactory meeting place for a get-together with your potential adoptive pet.
