Who We Are

The Bullhead City Animal Control Bureau has been officially renamed Animal Care And Welfare Bureau as of May 2014. The Animal Care And Welfare Facility, formally known as the Bullhead City Animal Shelter, was built in 1988 and houses approximately 38 dogs and 26 cats, and has been in the process of remodeling as of this year, 2014. The Animal Care And Welfare Bureau, is responsible for enforcing Bullhead City ordinances pertaining to animals. The animal shelter actively makes every effort to reunite lost pets with their owners. The animal shelter is just north of the City Administration Building on Marina Blvd. It is also just south of Hancock Road. The City's municipal swimming pool is also close by, just across the street from the shelter on Trane Road. We are so excited to feature our adoptable and lost pets on Petfinder. The pet list will be updated weekly. Every effort will be made to include all pets in the shelter. This will allow owners to check for lost pets at the shelter and potential adopters to see what is available.

Our Mission

Make Bullhead City citizens responsible and loving pet owners by increasing public awareness and educate regarding city ordinances pertaining to animals. We strive to eliminate the
euthanasia of adoptable animals by offering a low cost spay/neuter program for low income families of Bullhead City. We also participate in the Petsmart adoption program, giving
animals a second chance in finding a forever home. TV2 and TV4 visit our shelter weekly and feature some of our animals and Swanty's sponsors a dog and a cat weekly.

Adopting a friend

Animals within the animal shelter are available for adoption after being held the required length of time. Animals without identification are held four working days, animals with identification
are held six working days, not including weekends or holidays. Owner turn-ins are available immediately. All animals that are adoptable are at a first come, first serve basis. Anyone looking
to adopt an animal that is on hold can place their name on the adoption list, then when the holding period is over, you may adopt it. If you see the animal on Petfinder, you may call
(928-763-6000) and be placed on it's list, however we would prefer you to come down to shelter to visit/see the animal beforehand. Unfortunately, we are unable to ship any animal.

You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid picture ID to adopt. Adoption cost for dogs and cats is $70. The adoption includes a certificate for a regular spay or neuter (if not yet
done), and rabies vaccination. An additional $10 is applied for a one year license, senior citizens 55+ is only an additional $2 (license for Bullhead City residents only). All of these are
required by state and local laws. This fee may vary. An additional $30 office visit fee will be charged at the time of your appointment with the vet of your choice (listed in the adoption
contract). An additional $25 is applied to PETSMART animals, this covers any additional veteranary services the animal received prior to adoption.
