Our Featured Pet...

Hardy-is a 3 year old black, male, Giant Schnauzer. He is a happy, friendly boy who loves attention. He was left chained outside and neglected by his owner in New Mexico. A kindly neighbor fed and cared for him and contacted Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue. He has completed his treatment for heartworm and is doing well. He is neutered. Hardy is looking for a Foster Home or adopter who can restrict his activity to as required until the killed heartworms can filter out of his system. Zoe-just arrived from Salt Lake City where she was turned into the Humane Society by her elderly owner. He didn't even know what breed she was at the time and luckily one of the workers recognized her as a giant schnauzer under all the matted fur. She is indeed a giant schnauzer. The owner eventually found her papers proving her to be a giant. She is 5 years old, black, docked tail, natural ears. She acts much younger than her five years. Right now she is in isolation since she came with kennel cough which almost always happens to dogs who come into a animal shelter. Once we know more about her, we will post it. The person who picked her up and brought her to us, fell in love with her. He described her as quite the lover, crate trained and waited very politely when the crate was opend to have her leash put on her. She walked well with him on the road stops on along the way. She is a pretty big girl at 85 pounds. Pictures will be coming. She has never been around children and we don't know yet how she is with other dogs or cats. But we do know she is a loving girl who will be a great protector in your home. Since she lived with an elderly person, a quieter home is probaby the best one for her. She is taking visitors at Deer Creek Animal Hospital.

Most of our animals are at Deer Creek Animal Hospital. This beautiful new facility has an acre of grass in back. It is located at 3025 E. Rose Garden Ln. Phoenix 85050. We will have a grooming demo, agility demo, raffle items to raise money for our many rescues and food will be available also.

Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue is a group of volunteers who are interested in educating people about giant schnauzers. We take in giant schnauzers who need a forever home. Our Mission is to rescue Giant Schnauzers in need, provide medical care, and foster these dogs until we find forever homes. We strive to find permanent, loving homes that are best suited to each dog. Each rescue dog receives a complete wellness check-up. This includes complete physical exam, general blood panel, screening for heartworms, Valley Fever, and Tick Fever. Appropriate treatments are administered as required. All dogs are micro-chipped and groomed. All dogs are spayed or neutered before placement. Foster homes evaluate temperament, training, and any behavior issues. Dogs receive training if needed and the dogs are matched with an appropriate home.

We raise money for our Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue on Ebay. You can go to http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZgiantschnauzerrescue to see what items we have listed to benefit rescue. We have a lot of unique art work that our members and supporters do to help us fund rescue. We also accept Paypal donations using the phxgsrescue@hotmail.com as our email address.

If we don't have a giant in rescue right now, we do work with other rescue groups around the country and will forward your application to the appropriate rescue group.

We are looking for foster homes for giant schnauzers. We need homes that are experienced with large dominant breeds. Several of these dogs do just fine with other dogs and others don't. They don't because they have been kenneled most of their lives and used for breeding purposes. They just need some time and some love and someone to act as alpha with them until they learn the ropes. ADOPTING A FRIEND

We have an application that needs to be filled out and that can be done at www.vsgiantschnauzerrescue.org. We do home checks before adoptions are completed. Please visit our website to fill out an application to adopt a giant schnauzer. Our adoption fees range from $150 to $350. Most of our dogs are placed in the state of Arizona, but we will sometimes under special circumstances adopt elsewhere. If the giant needs to be transported, those costs will be up to the adopter. We do homechecks and will find someone in your area to do the homecheck and also to act as a backup for us in case the adoption should not work out.
