Holbrook Haven Senior Sanctuary

OUR PRIMARY GOAL IS TO FIND EACH AND EVERY FURKID THEIR VERY OWN SPECIAL HOME!

NEWS!!!

"WINTER-2008"

UPDATE NOV 08-

Well, it's Winter time already and has it ever been cold here! Our mom tried to put our sweaters on us...in fact, she did, but we decided we didn't want to wear them! Instead of our sweaters, we made her give us lots and lots of blankets we can curl up in and crawl into and burrow beneath! It's much toastier that way! We've all been spending a lot more time inside the house instead of outside playing. We really like this time of year...Thanksgiving was just here and we all got turkey in our suppers! Yummy! Now Christmas is on it's way and we can't wait to see what goodies Santa will bring us all!

FEATURED PET -LUCKY

Lucky is my name. I am a Lucky girl. You see I was found by a Flying Paws volunteer lying in a ditch. I had been grazed by a car. But you know, Flying Paws saw that I went to Sonora Veterinary Clinic and they reattached the growth plate to my femur. After four weeks, I have a clean bill of health. I can run, jump and play. I do that well. I love to be with other dogs. I like parrots, chickens and doves. I do not bother cats or horses. All I want to truly be a LUCKY girl is a loving home. I am housebroken and spend the nights in a kennel. I want a home where I will be part of a loving family. I would love to play ball with someone. Fetch sounds like something this Lucky little Corgi would like to do. Could you become my play partner for life?

Lucky is a 24 pound Corgi mix who at 13 months of age is spayed, up to date on all of her shots, has had bordetella vaccinations and is heartworm and tick fever negative. Sonora Veterinary Clinic has given Lucky a great bill of health. In fact, everyone there has fallen in love with her.

If you would like to meet me, please contact www.castoffcockers.org and be sure to tell them you are interested in ME, Lucky girl!!! I can't wait to give someone ALL of my love and affection for ever and ever! Tail wags and smooches....Lucky

HAPPY TAILS

Dusty Blue was rescued from a busy intersection where he had almost been hit by numerous cars at the ripe old age of 6 weeks!!! I stopped the car in the middle of the intersection, got out, called him to me, and off we went! Little Blue, as I called him, was nothing but skin and bones, so off to the vet we went! After being microchipped, examined, put on a special diet because of his rough start in life, and given his first puppy shot, we headed home. The following morning, little Blue came down with Parvo, so it was back to the vet's office where we were given a SubQ IV bag with lots of vitamins and antibiotics added to it in the hopes this little boy would pull through! And pull through he did!! After only 24 hours of nursing, this little one was up and ready to run again! Such a little trooper he was! When his checkup came around, the vet declared Blue healthy and gave him his "big doggie" shots! I posted Blue's photo on my Petfinder website and he was up for adoption! Pit Bull's get such a bad rap!! This little Blue-nosed Pit Bull baby was nothing but a bundle of love and energy...and extremely smart too! He learned to sit, stay, heel, and was well on his way to being a wonderful and obedient companion for some lucky adopter! Blue was neutered at about four months of age and all ready for a new home. Blue lived with all the little old seniors here at Holbrook Haven; Pekes, Chihuahuas, Min-Pins, and Shih Tzus, yet never once tried to hurt one of them..he loved them all and played with them whenever he could talk them into it! He loved them and they loved him in return, no questions asked. And Blue always looked forward to his morning and evening walks when he just knew he'd get lots of attention from the neighbors and his neighborhood doggie friends. I'd take Blue across the street to play in the yard with his best neighbor friend, a big Rottie puppy of 6 months, just about every day and they both loved it. Blue always wanted to go play with hsi buddy, Ghengis! After several inquiries from potential adopters, Blue finally found the ideal and perfect new "furever" owner! He was now almost 5 months old and weighed 35 pounds! What a beautiful big boy he had developed into..and so loving too! His new owner had another doggie for Blue to play with and he was in heaven! And to top things off, Blue will be trained to be an "ambassador" for his breed, to show that not all Pit Bulls are bad dogs, that they are loveable and give lots of love in return, and hopefully, he'll be able to teach us humans that there is truly a place for each and every "rescued" animal out there! I miss Dusty Blue lots and think of him every day, but thankfully he sends me lots of pictures to show me how happy and content he and his new "mom" are! Blue is truly a "happy tails rescue story"!!!

Remember, we do have some special rules for adopting all of our little cuties, but nothing that difficult to handle. Please be prepared to give us your vet's name, number, and location, along with your address, phone number, and a couple of references!

Looking for a wonderful kitty companion?? Please don't hesitate to phone us (928-524-7805) as we have lots of different cats here looking for forever homes. We'd be more than happy to tell you all about them if you phone us.

We are currently looking for donations so that we may become a 501(C)(3) sanctuary! It is a bit expensive, especially on our limited budget, so if you can donate any amount of money, no matter how small, please do...every penny counts at this phase, so everything will help...and all donations will go toward the fee to get this status! This will make us a truly non-profit sanctuary and then any other donations will be tax deductible! Thank you in advance, for any and all donations..and please let your friends know about us also!!!

Our phone number is 928-524-7805 and our email address is seniorfurkids@frontiernet.net ...Feel free to contact us anytime...we LOVE talking about these little furry kids!!

"OUR GOALS"

Holbrook Haven Senior Sanctuary is dedicated to rescuing small senior and "special needs" dogs and cats. A private sanctuary, we provide a safe, permanent retirement venue where formerly homeless animals and shelter rescues can spend their Golden Years. We try to rescue any animal who is in need of some love and TLC and who, for some unknown reason, have been abandoned, abused or neglected in one way or another! So be sure to take a look at all the wonderful little furkids here who would love to be someone's companion!

We also work to promote humane education with an emphasis on the care and benefits of older animals. In our own small way, we wage a daily battle against society's view of pets as being disposable.

We have an excellent track record of getting these little seniors homes of their own!

These precious little seniors still have plenty of life left in them and a whole lot of love to give! They are, indeed, very special little furkids! We do our best to see that their final years are years of love, of compassion, and of being part of a family!

PLEASE REMEMBER: If you have questions or would like to inquire about any one of our furkids, take notice of any "special" email address listed in his/her bio as not all of our furkids are in the same foster home!!

"DONATIONS TO HELP THE FURKIDS"

We want to thank all of those who made donations or volunteered to help us out in the this past. Without your wonderful donations of blankets, towels, and money for medications, our furkids wouldn't have such a wonderful life! We so depend upon you all! PLEASE.... keep those donations coming! And if you'd be interested in "sponsoring" one of them medically, just give us a call and we'll be happy to tell you all about the wonderful help of our sponsor program.

The Haven operates strictly on out-of-pocket money and donations from the public. We're not a large organization, nor do we have a large overhead. But we DO have large veterinary bills, dog and cat food bills, medical bills, etc. In order to continue to rescue these furkids, we depend upon the support of the public.
