Mission Statement:

The mission of The Center for Animal Rescue and Adoption is to save more animals through proactive, progressive leadership and organized, positive collaboration. We are dedicated to the life-saving programs and services of the No-Kill Equation as the only viable solution to ending the tragedy of animals needlessly dying in shelters.

1. Feral cat trap-neuter-return (TNR)
2. High-volume, accessible spay/neuter
3. Rescue access to shelters
4. Foster care
5. Adoption
6. Retention / keeping animals in good homes
7. Medical and behavioral rehabilitation
8. Redemption / returning lost and sheltered animals back home
9. Community outreach
10. Volunteer involvement
AND Compassionate leadership that embraces the no-kill philosophy and fully implements all elements of the No-Kill Equation

Current Programs:

Rescue & Adoption. We focus this program on senior pets, special medical or behavioral needs, bonded pairs, and long-term rehab cases. We also place tame kittens and cats from feral colonies that are undergoing TNR, as well as animals from abuse, neglect and hoarding cases. See a list of all our current animals available for adoption.

Spay/Neuter. We are pleased to announce that we have joined the National Spay/Neuter Response Team. We are developing a high-quality, high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic based on the Humane Alliance model, expected to open in early 2010. With this nonprofit clinic, we will be able to spay/neuter an estimated 6,000 to 8,000 dogs and cats in our first year. We will serve animal shelters, rescue groups and feral cat Trap-Neuter-Return efforts, as well as meet the needs of low-income families and others from the public who might not otherwise spay/neuter their dogs and cats because of accessibility and affordability obstacles. We believe that efforts to spay more animals will help save more animals. You can help us Spay It Forward!

Feral Cat TNR. We trap, neuter and return untame cats living outdoors, focusing on stabilizing the population of one entire colony at a time, neighborhood by neighborhood. We also loan out humane traps to the public for individual TNR efforts.

Training & Technical Assistance. We offer consulting services to other nonprofit groups to build their capacity in the areas of nonprofit management, fundraising, technology, public relations, media outreach and other best practices that save more animals. We also research and develop pilot projects that can be used as models for communities interested in creative problem-solving and innovative solutions, and we facilitate organized, positive cooperation and collaboration among organizations to help save more animals.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We list all of our current volunteer opportunities on the website of the Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona. Our greatest need is for people to provide temporary foster care for dogs or cats in their homes. We do not have a shelter facility. All of our animals live with volunteers in their homes. This is great for the animal, because it is less stressful and more individualized attention than in a shelter environment. It also gives us the chance to get to know the personalities of each individual animal so we can find the best match for them and for you. The time commitment for foster care can range from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the situation.
