Who We Are

Our Mission is to provide excellent care, protection and loving compassion for the life of the animals entrusted to us and to take a leadership role in promoting humane values for the benefit of all animals and people.

The Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA (AAWL) is a private non-profit organization supported solely through donations, program fees and memberships. We receive no government funding.

Last year in Maricopa County, there were more than 100,000 dogs and cats surrendered to shelters and sadly, more than 50,000 were euthanized. AAWL is committed to eliminating the unnecessary euthanasia of dogs and cats. AAWL takes in dogs and cats from Maricopa County Animal Care and Control and the Arizona Humane Society where they might otherwise be euthanized. At any given time, our shelter facility can house up to 90 dogs and 130 cats.

Adopting a friend

All dogs adopted from the AAWL have been spayed or neutered, are microchipped, are current on vaccinations, and are behavior tested. All dogs go home with an ID tag, a microchip tag, a bag of food, a toy and access to our behavior helpline to make the transition to your home a smooth one. The dog adoption fee ranges from $65 to $129. More of our Dogs.

All cats adopted from the AAWL have been spayed or neutered, are microchipped, current on vaccinations, and have tested negative for feline leukemia. They will go home with a collar, ID tag, a bag of food, a toy and a pet carrier. The cat adoption fee ranges from $65 to $129. More of our Cats.

The AAWL Behavior Help Line, (602) 273-6850

Our Behavior Helpline is a valuable resource for pet owners who have questions about their cat or dog’s behavior. The Helpline is monitored 7 days a week with the goal to prevent animals from being surrendered for correctable behavior issues.

Open Your Home. Open Your Heart. Become a Foster Parent.

The AAWL foster program is designed to allow us to care for orphaned kittens and puppies too young for adoption, sick or injured animals needing extra TLC, adult dogs and cats needing additional behavior training and dogs and cats who need a break from the stress of a shelter environment. Loving foster families throughout the Valley open their homes for these animals until they are ready to be adopted.

To help these wonderful animals, contact our Foster Care Coordinator, at 602-273-6852, ext. 113. You'll be asked about your availability, what types of pets you are interested in fostering and a few other very painless questions. It's that simple and the dogs and cats will be so grateful. Find out more.
