DogsOnly Feature Companion

Amos

Amos is a young Hound/ Anatolian Shepherd mix who had been abandoned in a kill shelter about 60 miles south east of Abilene Texas because his original owner moved into an apartment and decided that Amos was no longer wanted. Under threat of euthanasia, Amos was in desperate need of rescue. To escape the shelter alive it was decided that he should join the DogsOnly rescue and re-home program in Central Arkansas. DogsOnly is known for taking large companion dogs and otherwise so called difficult to adopt dogs into rescue.

Amos

Amos will not be as large as his Anatolian/Hound looks indicate. At approximately 10 months old, he is currently 22” at the shoulder and weighs a solid 50 pounds.

Amos

He is very energetic, smart and persistent. He seems as happy inside as outside as long as he has a person or a passive dog to interact with. He knows some commands and walks on leash. He is potty trained to 'go' outside. As is typical with a young dog, he is curious and very mischievous when left in the house without supervision. He needs someone who will let him know what his boundaries are in a firm yet soft voice. He is sensitive and wants to please. He gets upset when locked in a crate and will cry, so needs someone with a safe place for him to be when no one is home. He loves people and endeavors to take the number one spot for attention. He gets along with some other dogs as long as they do not challenge him. He strives to be top dog. This could partly be due to his insecurity of losing his family and then being shuffled around into unfamiliar places.

Amos

Amos is being fostered and cared for at Ozark Dogs in north central Arkansas so he will not be available to meet at the DogsOnly adoption showings at Petco. If you would like to learn more about Amos you can email contact@dogsonly.org or you can complete an online adoption application by clicking the links at the top or bottom of this page. PLEASE NOTE: ALL ADOPTIONS REQUIRE SECURE FENCING. THIS DOG IS NOT TRAINED AS A WORKING LIVESTOCK GUARDIAN DOG. HW WILL ONLY BE ADOPTED AS A COMPANION ANIMAL.

Who We Are

DogsOnly.org is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all volunteer organization that specializes in the rescue and adoption of dogs and puppies in Arkansas. DogsOnly also strives to offer help and advice to any dog owner who is experiencing problems with their dog. We try to educate and inform in a friendly and constructive manner and if we are personally unable to help, we will do our best to find someone who can.

In addition to the work being done in Arkansas DogsOnly supports rescue efforts throughout North America by providing support and assistance to national dog rescue transportation groups.

The number of adult dogs and puppies that DogsOnly foster is very limited, so we strive to promote the efforts of other rescue groups and in so doing help prospective adoptees to locate their new family dog.

With your help DogsOnly saves lives in Arkansas.

Adopting a friend

A DogsOnly volunteer can help you determine just the right dog for your family and help you get to know them through adoption showings, home visits, and trial adoptions. An adoption application can be collected at one of our showings at Petco in Little Rock or you can fill one out on-line by visiting our website at www.DogsOnly.org. There is a $75.00 to $125 adoption fee depending on the dog which helps us to cover the cost of their spay or neuter, shots to include all three rounds if adopting a puppy, rabies, de-worming on ALL dogs and puppies, heartworm prevention, and Frontline flea and tick treatments. All of our dogs over six months are tested for heartworms.

DogsOnly provides all necessary preventative medical care to get your new best friend off to the best possible start. Click here to learn more about adopting a DogsOnly dog.
