News

Residents of Stuttgart are required to purchase city tags for all dogs. These tags enable us to identify a dog's "lost" owner. City tags can be purchased at City Hall in the City Clerk's Office. Pet owner must have a valid Rabies certificate by a licensed vet. and pay a fee of $1.50 per tag.

Who We Are

The Stuttgart Animal Shelter is a municipal facility provided by the City of Stuttgart for its citizens. We are a small shelter with one officer to handle all the calls. We enforce all the State and City statutes; trap wild animals; investigate and prosecute animal abuse cases; promote the benefits of spaying/neutering to pet owners; supply helpful tips to improve animal care; pick up unwanted and stray dogs. We do not pick up house cats, due to limited space, but can help you find a cat. We are a low kill shelter. All the dogs are given as much time as possible to be adopted out before undergoing euthanasia. (We would rather see the dogs adopted out.) The time limit depends on how much room we have in the shelter. More room to house the dogs is the one thing we need. All the dogs are fed very well and have access to fresh water.

Adopting a friend

After five (5) days, in the shelter, the dogs become available for adoption. There is a $15.00adoption fee. Residents of Stuttgart need to add a fee of $1.50 for the city tag. There is a$6.50 charge for the rabies shot. We recommend the adoptee be taken to a vet of your choice. The dogs do not receive any medical treatment (shots, tests, etc.) while at the shelter. The medical history of these dogs is unknown due to most of them being strays. The dog's behavior and temperament is based on the limited contact while confined at the shelter and should not be construed as fact.
