Arkansas Australian Shepherd Rescue, Inc. (AASR) is a non-profit adoption and referral service dedicated to placing homeless or abandoned Australian Shepherds in loving, permanent homes. All representatives and foster homes are volunteers. They receive no compensation and do it only for the love of Australian Shepherds .
All dogs available for adoption have been temperament and health checked, spayed/neutered, heartworm checked and put on preventative (and treated if positive), and are current on their vaccinations. If a suitable dog is found for you to adopt, we do ask for an adoption fee to help us cover any medical work we've done and to help us continue helping other herding dogs in need.
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting a herding dog from AASR, the first step is to fill out and return an Adoption Application. An Adoption Application may be obtained via e-mail at email@example.com.
The adoption application helps us find the best match between you and the dogs we have available. It gives the AASR volunteers an idea of what kind of dog would suit you (active, quiet, younger, older, good with kids, good with cats, etc.) Then, after a representative has reviewed your application, you will be contacted to set up a home visit with a representative of AASR and to discuss any dogs we have available. Arkansas Australian Shepherd Rescue, Inc. volunteers pride themselves on their thorough screening process. They screen both adoptive homes and adoptable dogs carefully, so adopters should be prepared to answer many questions about their lifestyles and desires for a dog. AASR does, however, reserve the right to refuse an applicant.
Also, please keep in mind when inquiring about adopting a dog that AASR does not ship dogs to people sight unseen. Once approved for adoption, and if a good match is found, potential adopters are required to come to where the dogs are located to meet them in person before deciding whether or not to adopt. This is not only in the best interest of the dogs but for the adopters as well, and we appreciate your consideration and understanding on this matter.
Adopters should expect to spend some time working with the rescue volunteer in order to find the best dog for their requirements. When you and the right dog find each other, AASR has an adoption contract for you to sign. Copies of the adoption contract and the dog’s medical paperwork will be given to you at the time of the adoption.
When adopting a dog that is in our foster care, Arkansas Australian Shepherd Rescue does charge an adoption fee. These adoption fees enable us to continue rescuing and placing herding dogs. AASR, Inc. is a non-profit public benefit corporation and run solely by adoption fees and donations. Dogs who are not in our foster care but are in our listings from private owners will be placed for free. The owners may only ask for the cost of spaying or neutering the dog in order to be eligible for our listings.
