News

I have applied to Extreme Makeover Home Edition for a RESCUE MAKEOVER! Wish me luck! If you are interested in helping with the nomination, please send an email to me and I will forward details to you: mimi@gapbroadcasting.com. ***UPDATE: KTBS 3 is advertising for nominations for an Extreme Makeover--Hometown Hero. Maybe this can be the year for a Muttley Crew Rescue makeover! Please go to their website to nominate MCR: www.ktbs.com. I would love to have a structure for the dogs to be inside when the weather is bad. Something with big runs attached that are partially covered. The runs would have a very heavy gage wire buried in a concrete boarder to prevent digging out. There would be a grassy area because all dogs need grass to roll in. The inside of the structure would have an area for grooming, an area for isolating sick dogs, an area to store food, and an area (a mini kitchen) to prepare dinner each night. The structure would be climate controlled. I would also like an escape-free fence to go around the entire property--keeps unwanted creatures out and allows a large area for the dogs run when its time to exercise. That's my vision.

Who We Are

I prefer to take in the dogs that need me the most. The super skinny, malnourished mistreated dogs. It takes longer to turn these dogs around but it is so worth it. The rescue is operated solely on the income of the main dog-feeder Mimi and donations from wonderful people. In August of 2006, I left my comfortable 3 bedroom brick home in town and moved to the country with 5 acres to open a dog rescue. It was a tough adjustment. I have probably had somewhere around 300-400 dogs come through my rescue in the 2+ years. Many of the dogs are rescued from the local animal shelter, some were intercepted before they went to the shelter, and some were from shelters out of the area. I have a great volunteer group that helps with adoption events the first Saturday of every month at Petsmart in Texarkana, Texas. Most dogs have some obedience training and some are housetrained. The benefits of adopting from a rescue is that the animals have had more one-on-one care and their temperment/habits are better known. I mainly rescue German Shepherds but have also recently had a terrier mix; a rotweiller mix and a pittbull. I have an email group called the Muttley Email Crew. I email photos and information about dogs and cats (and sometimes horses, birds, goats & others) that need new homes. The plan is to try and prevent the animals from going to the shelter. You can join that crew by emailing me at mimi@gapbroadcasting.com.

Rescue News

I have a family now and do not have the freedom to put all of my money into the rescue. I'm selling my horse to help fund the rescue--see Fiona's listing on my adoptable pets page. She will make someone a GREAT horse. I'm also working on a yard sale.

How Can You Help

If you are interested in helping out at the rescue I purchase my dog food (Diamond Hi-Energy) at Tractor Supply Company in Texarkana. I generally go through about 8-10 bags each month. Dog food can be purchased at the store and I can pick it up--please check with the manager. I purchase my gas at Murphy's (Walmart) and use gift cards because its 3 cents cheaper with the card. My fuel expenses for the rescue usually run about $300-$350 a month. The vets are always excited to get payments on my account too! Payments can be sent directly to the one I owe the most to: Wisdom Animal Clinic, 2403 Texas Blvd, Texarkana, TX 75503. There are many other expenses involved in a rescue. For other ways to help you can email me at mimi@gapbroadcasting.com. THANK YOU to Martin's Accounting Services in Lewisville, Arkansas, ARTEX Animal Welfare Association and the many others who have helped support my rescue and the volunteers that spend many hours with me each month. I could not do it without you! 501c3 pending.
